I think clan colors are ok as far as reskins go. although, then again, for Orks gun color can actually change performance...
My hope is for a full 3d model of weapons that can be updated with parts, seals, decals, effects, and textures for all factions. Really go with a "this is my gun" vibe. I doubt it would ever workout due to the amount of resources needed to make it work. A lot of effort at this point for potentially no real pay out.
Hrm. Well I never like to discuss this stuff because as you say we don't know how much time it takes to work. But. Let's consider the bolter. Let's say you only have ONE bolter model. But on that bolter model you have several different "slots", each one with three different "things". For example, slot A is the magazine, and can have a straight, sickle, or drum. Slot B is a "seal" or "Garnish" slot where you can add a seal, or an imperial aquilla, or a chapter badge. But the chapter badge has to have one of each chapter available so you have to make 4 of those. So even for that little bit, for a single bolter, gotta have quite a bit.
Even though you'd literally replace the air in front of you with burning lead until your clip empties? Heheh...try dodging through that Eldar bastards....
Wot about da Combi Shootas, wif da ekstra barrulz, and da bigga maggozeens for da maximum dakka outhpoot?
Kombi weapons will probably result in different fire modes from 2 seperate gun types. They will most likely add weapon mods though that boost things like RoF, effective range, magazine size etc. Edit: i hope it doesnt just turn into a CoD loadout clone
To be fair, there's nothing inherently wrong from stealing the best ideas from other games. CoD may be popular but it's popular for a reason. The inherent mechanics aren't good, or bad. They simply are. I think it's more likely to be a Payday 2 style customization system for the weapons.
25 Head Shot Downs in order to unlock a weapon skin, as an example. Yes, a Shoota should be less accurate than a Bolter(Shoota 4.5-cm spread at 27-meters vs Bolter 3.4-cm spread at 48-meters) but you should still be capable of hitting enemies, especially at close ranges(I.E. within 27-meters). First, bE could make various patterns/skins for each of the weapons for the game. Then, for each pattern, design different modules/parts that alter that weapon's appearance based on what mods you have equipped. For weapons like Bolters, things like Fire Rate increases could be noted with Purity Seals, while Ork weapons could become painted Red. A red barrel could denote faster Fire Rate, grip/magazine faster reload speed. The possibilities for visual customization are actually quite extensive. Players could alter their mag between visual defaults(I.E. straight, sickle, drum) but mods would be more specific, so for instance you would have to play and try to earn the Extended Sickle Mod if you wanted an extended magazine and the sickle appearance. Things like Seals would be visual indications of less visible changes to the weapon, such as Fire Rate, Strength or Armor Penetration increases, while things like Accuracy improvements could take the form of extended barrels and/or scopes/sights. Even with all the possible visual customizations possible for a single weapon that weapon can also have different patterns(skins), allowing for a team of 48 or even 60 Tacticals with Bolters to all have their own unique looking Bolter. If the Combi-Shoota is supposed to fill the role of Storm Bolter in comparison to the Shoota vs Bolter, the Combi-S would have wider spread, higher recoil, faster Fire Rate and a larger magazine size than the Shoota. The Fire Rate increase doesn't have to be massive as a greater focus can be put on volume of shots rather than frequency. For example, Shoota TTK vs Tactical: 1.26-sec, 8 Shots, 0.18-sec Fire Rate, 45 Round Magazine Combi-Shoota TTK vs Tactical: 1.05-sec, 8 Shots, 0.15-sec FR, 60 Round Magazine One of my ideas for possible WAAAGH!* buffs is Reduced Ammo Consumption, up to a max of 50%, which would give the Shoota 68 shots and the Combi-Shoota 90 shots. Spoiler *WAAAGH! buffs would be both Active and Passive. Active would have a moderate cooldown(I.E. 15 to 20-sec) and temporarily(I.E. 3 to 5-sec) provide the using Ork and any nearby(I.E. within 3 to 5-meters) Orks with increased move/attack speed(16.7%**) and 25% Reduced Ammo Consumption. Each Ork would passively provide nearby(I.E. within 3 to 5-meters) Orks with 25% of the Active buff, with Elites/Heroes providing larger passive buffs(I.E. Elites 50% of Active, Heroes 100%). The Active and Passive could either stack so a group of 5 Orks could get a MAX/Double buff or not stack so you'd need at least 9 Basic Orks for a MAX buff. Going beyond a Full/Single buff could also begin to provide other benefits, such as minor HP regeneration, encouraging Orks to get into larger groups. **Ork Move Speeds Forward: 6(base)/7(Full WAAAGH!)/8-ms(MAX WAAAGH!) Strafe: 4.5/5.25/6-ms Back-Pedal: 3/3.5/4-ms Sprint: 12/14/16-ms C/Sm Move Speeds Forward: 6-ms Strafe: 5-ms Back-Pedal: 4-ms Sprint: 12-ms SM Combat Knife TTK vs Ork Boy: 2.1-sec, 7 Basic Attacks, 0.3-sec Attack Speed Ork Choppa TTK vs Tactical: 2.4/2/1.6-sec, 8 BAs, 0.3/0.25/0.2-sec AS. Overall, an Ork Shoota should be outperformed by a Tactical Marine in long and medium range combat, while outperforming the Tactical in close range combat, providing the Marine 2 ranged advantages to the Ork's 1. Off base stats the Tactical should have the advantage in melee combat, with WAAAGH! buffs providing the Ork escalating advantages, giving the Ork 2 melee advantages to the C/SM's 1.
I just want to control where I put the mods on my shoota is all. Like sticking the mag on the top or having myltiple barrels stacked on top of eachother or side by side.
That, too, can be part of the mod system itself. Basic Mods can cause a default change to the weapon, while specific mods cause specific changes, such as Extended Mag(Top/Side-Load) increasing the mag size of your weapon and shifting the mag up top, while Strength Increase(Barrel Size/Number) increase the weapon's damage and provide it either a larger caliber barrel or numerous but smaller caliber barrels. Having different versions of mods increases the number of mods available and gives players more incentive to play for specific ones.
