How much Shock Value belongs in EC?

  1. None! Toes shall scamper if any blood marks the screen, downgrade to T!

  2. M rated to the tune of Space Marine or Dawn of War. "Comfortable" brutality.

  3. Marginally more brutality than Space Marine - more emphasis on sound effects.

  4. Moderately more brutality than Space Marine - even more emphasis on sound and visual effects.

  5. Massively more brutality than Space Marine - basically mortal combat scenes.

  6. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD - Slaughter of all innocence. Scenes directly out of nightmare. (or Other)

    That's fair :D

I find it weird that people want a ludicrous high amount of gore. Didn't space marine already give enough gorey executions and brutality. It sounds like people want a ten minute cutscene of an Eldar Farseer being tortured in a manner like the Saw sequels *almost pukes* ... We need brutality, but we need Battlefield brutality.
  3. i think its more an ork ripping an elder in two with blood and gore errywhere, that people want, not saw sequal torture porn, the Deldar aint here yet.
    Djemo-SRB likes this.

Yeah that's what I'm saying it defiantly needs to be efficient. Unless the characters lore means they are more likely to do something in a brutal/horrifying way.

I agree with the others. MK's ones are intentionally over the top, but do try too hard, and as a result are neither comedic nor particularly shocking. I think SM's level of gore was fine combat-wise, but that's not the only place you can find gore/shock value.

For example, I'd love to see some seriously nasty-looking Nurgle worshippers dragging their intestines around and maybe some grisly static placeables. Chaos-owned fortresses especially should go to town on having bodies hanging all over the place, heads on spikes, miscellaneous bits of flesh kicking around just for the hell of it, but all 40k factions make trophies of their dead enemies to some extent.

Although the graphics are obviously outdated now, the placeables in Diablo 1 and 2 were excellent for creating a truly grim atmosphere. I find images like this far more nightmarish and disturbing than 'lol so cool epic execution.' I really hope I don't get banned for posting these.

(WARNING: fairly graphic images from an old game - not for the squeamish)

Even now these images do have an effect on me. As I said before, I'm a massive fan of the art direction and design of the Diablos for creating some genuinely desolate and forlorn locations.

But also important was that these placeables are by and large quite understated; when you're concentrating on running around and bopping stuff and picking up fat loot, the dull colour palette and sort of vague blurriness of the graphics means it's quite easy to miss these little additions, and it's easy to pass over them without really considering how horrific they are.

Since the graphics in EC are probably going to be pretty rad I'm not sure if the design team could achieve that same 'hidden in plain sight' effect, but the point is to make them slightly more subtle rather than shoving it in your face screaming 'BRUH CHECK OUT HOW SICK AND NASTY THIS IS YUURUGH.'

That approach is fine if you're taking a darkly comic slasher route and want ludicrous amounts of limbs flying around and blood all over the place, but it looks like the EC team are gunning for a slightly more immersive and realistic approach.

maybe its a smart idea to make a cencorship animation, like some people let their kids play aswell, but the kids acount is under parental lock, so each time the kid gets executed, instead of gore and violence this teletubby pops blocking the view, holding its hands in front of his mouth and says: uh...ooooooh...!
if you make sure the teletubby has the same colour as the SM chapter chances are the kids dont even notice it.
    you're welcome.
  7. Guys I see where you are coming from but I would much rather smooth gameplay over guts and blood everywhere

As long as the executions are smooth then the guts and blood kinda go hand in hand with the whole grim dark you will die horribly attitude everything in 40k has.
