Being that this game is still missing a few (a lot) of its wargear, assets (UAT server has some stuff that is very interesting for the Ground/Traitor Assaults)and Space Wolves. I think this topic is far "too soon." But for sake of discussion, the "shieldbro" has had the option to forego the shield in favor of a sidearm for awhile now. Which I believe gives a more blood angel-like feel. Also the continuity of calling this class "shieldbro" now that he has other options is negatively typecasting.
+1 to the OP couldn't agree more with this thread! To give my two cents, I really don't see the BA's being a Ground Assault oriented faction in the first place, its just to slow pace for them and should probably be removed as a class for the BA's... I see the BA's more as a Chapter dedicated to lightning fast maneuvers.... they drop land raiders from low orbit for christ sake lol! BA's on table top encourage players to build lists that rely heavily on Jump Assault. Many of their models (Sanguinary Guard/ Priests, vanguard vets, Death Company, Chaplains, CM Dante,Astorath, Lemartes the sanguinor are all table top models that either have or can take Jump Packs) even their librarian dreadnoughts can cast a spell that gives them "wings"! So personally, any chapter specialization for the BA's should look at giving bonuses and buffs that encourage players to cater to a lightning fast and first strike play style of the Jump Assault (giving apoths and elites/ heroes access to jump packs, and giving Jump Assaults access to Storm Shields would be a few chapter perks that could cater to this play style). I agree that the BA's should also have some kind of melee buff, perhaps not a toughness boost but certainly a damage boost especially when it comes to the slam attack for JA troops. Now if Death Company make it into this game they could probably be given a MoN type feel with increased toughness but I would then take it one step further and give them a damage boost as well. To make up for these buffs, you could maybe limit the weapons the death company could get access too ( maybe just Chainswords, and powerswords) I don't really know much about the Space Wolves lore or playstyle on tabletop so I won't comment on them.
Yeah I also think that apart from storm shield BA jump packers should also have autocannons. I see that the snow flake TT curse is still strong with BA .
OK. I agree, sort of. I only have campaign box sets for SW and BA so I don't know all their rules. But why should they get "special" rules. Shouldn't all SMs get those same rules. The only special rule I could see is throwing on cap ability for BA fast attack (in the old codex they were troops but I am not sure about the new codex) and SWs, I know Blood Claws are a melee troop choice but I don't remember if Grey Hunters could swap out a boltgun or pistol for a CC weapon. In any case, the fast attack choice should have the options to take shield and/or jump pack. The apothecary should have the same ability. I'm not sure that they should get bonuses unless they some how manage to incorporate furious charge or counter attack. I just don't know how those rules would work in a real time game. I'm not a fan of the purity seal rumor and making some war gear similar to chaos marks. Here is a chance to make CSM/SM different, based upon the TT rules/lore. JPAs with thunder hammer storm shield would be awesome.

To amend my previous comment, rather than give the basic troop access, making an elite vanguard vet with a SS would be better. For the record I don't play BA's on TT, I just like their fluff
Yes they should as it would keep things simple and they will probably do this. However, if the devs are planning to introduce The Emperors Children, Death Guard, World Eaters and Thousand Sons, I suspect there will be a demand for these legions to be made different from regular Chaos Undivided, as they worship only one chaos god. If they do it for one faction they should also do it for the others be it in the forms of chapters, craftworlds and warbands, and the BA's, SW's, and DA's would be the ideal chapters to customize. They don't necessarily need to have bonuses and probably shouldn't unless again other factions are given something similar, I was thinking of the Death Company marine being an Elite choice, in which case they could be modified a little more. But what you just listed would suffice for me. JPAs with thunder hammer storm shield would be awesome. I think so too, the pure destruction and mayhem that would follow would be immensely entertaining. But maybe that would be reserved for an Elite class like a Vanguard Vet. Now... if the devs could some how implement deep striking LR's into this game that would be truly awesome! We already have the Rhino space program in the game so it can't be that hard
Wouldn't World Eaters be almost completely made of Berserkers, meaning no Havocs etc? It'd be GA army with no support elements. Roles like Berserkers, Noise Marines etc might be done as elite choices instead of an actual sub-faction for those Legions.
I was thinking about that earlier, its very much a possibility and would really suck if this is how it turns out. As I am sure many would like to play one of these as an actual subfaction. Just have to wait and see how it unfolds.
