Shieldbro does not properly represent Blood Angels and Space Wolf GA

  1. BERSERKER:

    1. violently or destructively frenzied; wild; crazed;deranged:

2.(sometimes initial capital letter) ScandinavianLegend.. Also, berserker. an ancient Norsewarrior who fought with frenzied rage in battle.

According to ancient legend, the berserkers were indestructible, and no weapon could break them from their trance. They were described as being immune to fire and to the strike of a sword, continuing on their rampage despite injury.

To "go berserk" was to "hamask", which translates as "change form", in this case, as with the sense "enter a state of wild fury". One who could transform as a berserker was typically thought of as "hamrammr" or "shapestrong".[3]:126 For example, the band of men that go with Skallagrim in Egil's Saga to see King Harald about his brother Thorolf's murder are described as "the hardest of men, with a touch of the uncanny about a number of them...they [were] built and shaped more like trolls than human beings". This is generally interpreted as the band of men being "hamrammr".[8]

The Shieldbro GA requires a defensive mindset and defensive play style in order to make the most of the build. While you can indeed play the 'Bro aggressively, if you're not using the shield regularly, you're not going to be as effective, and you're going to die a lot. Utilizing the shield regularly in order to excel on your 'Bro slows you down constantly, and sometimes stops you in your tracks.

While I feel the 'Bro build is a good fit for the methodical Ultramarines, and without any doubt fits the Imperial Fists, the play style required to excel on the 'Bro is not at all a good fit for the Wolves or the Sons of Sanguinius. The Dark Angels are more known for 7-8 foot long 2 handed greatswords so I'm not sure which category the Dark Angels should fall, perhaps the Bro shall suffice for the Sons of the Lion until 2 handed weapons are implemented.

The Wolves and Blood Angels on the whole are for the most part extremely aggressive, often close with the enemy with reckless abandon, never pausing to give their enemies respite. With the Wolves being constantly urged on by the curse of their inner Wulfen and the Blood Angels always teetering on the edge of the Black Rage, a more aggressive "Berserker" Ground Assault build free from the constraints of the shield, much more similar to the MoN, would be a much better fit for these two subfactions. The BA's spin off Chapter the Flesh Tearers didn't earn their Chapter name by hiding behind Storm Shields.

I've played the MoN GA(the good MoN GA, patch 17) and Bro almost exclusively the entirety of Alpha. The MoN GA requires a very offensive mindset and a very aggressive play style. You must close with the enemy without delay, hurling yourself into the fray with reckless abandon, constantly pressing your attack from opponent to opponent, never offering your enemies a respite. This play style perfectly captures the essence of the Berserker, the essence of the Blood Angels and Wolves of lore.

BHVR has stated that there will be distinct differences between subfactions. What better opportunity to put that concept into production by implementing a very durable, highly mobile, non shield toting "Berserker" Ground Assault build for the Wolves and the Blood Angels.
  2. You can go without the shield with ground assault and as more and more wargear and trinkets are probably going to be added to the game, you'll probably be able to have a more attack focused ground assault.

I mostly play either GA for the LSM or TA for the CSM and I use neither the shield nor the MoN and that's kinda cool.
    Trenchwar and Galen like this.
  3. Being a squishy Tactical running around with no shield is NOT a very appealing prospect for me personally. Having a special subclass for Blood Angels and the Wolves with a special class mechanic and a special Wargear item is much more appealing and gives each sub faction their own, lore appropriate appeal. I hope to see something similar for Ork, Eldar, And Chaos subfactions.
  4. It is true that it actually works better with CSM than LSM as the TA can capture points. But you can have great game with playing LSM GA too, lot of players are starting to do it and to like it as I've seen.
But as I said, wargear is going to evolve, trinkets are going to be added whatever they will be, and if a growing part of the GA players' pool is going shieldless it will probably impact the developpers in giving more options to them.

It is actually the same for Night Lords, my chaos character is a NL and I think they souldn't rely much on Gods' marks (they often despise mutation which the marks basically are) like other subfactions (I have neither sorcerer nor any MoN loadout for my chaos character) and they will also need specifications. For all that I think we'll have to wait.
    Galen likes this.

With patch 18 to get any good weapons you have to drop the MoN. I've been playing the traitor assault without the MoN when I want to cap. The same can be done with the GA without the shield.

Since patch 18 I have mostly been using the AS with MoN as my GA because of the added healing bonuses.

Before all the vitriol comes in, the AS is not broken, the MoN point cost is.
  6. This is a bit out of the initial subject, but I'll answer quickly to that, I think the devs didn't even think about what MoN for all would look like on a sorcerer. I said I don't have the loadout, but I tried it, this is just ridiculous how resistant you are as you can heal yourself as much as you want not like any other classes that have to drop the warp cristals to get the MoN or can have one (but need to drop grenades) but can use it only once if they don't go to ammo crate. Therefore a MoN AS almost never dies and that helps a lot. I was clearly better with it than with my MoNless TA but I still delated the loadout, sorcery and mutation is bad !

But the apothecary juicing up before a fight is similar to an AS with MoN. It just requires a bit more fore-sight. And the apoth is weaker that way but he can take a boltgun, but doesn't get SoC. Asymmetric balance is a bitch But that is why we are all testing this. Everyone tries to game the system--we wouldn't be gamers otherwise.

But to get back on topic I guess it does come down to non-melee classes can be better at melee than melee classes. That may be an issue.
  8. Yes totally agree on that point, this is one of the issue I have with the eldars are they are smaller and move more swiftly and with law framerate I sometimes have as much trouble dealing with non melee as with melee specialist.
I think that is due to that huge part of community whinning about losing all the time to melee classes (wtf mate, they own range from 100m+ to 15m, we own 0 to 10 and 10 to 15m is shared and they should also be able to counter us in these 10m of closed combat). with Dbash spamming and everything, non melee class are sometimes getting harder to kill. I hope the devs won't take the splipery slope of allowing non melee classes to get better in melee.

So the TL:DR is that you want a patch 17 MoN TA for your subfaction(faction). At the moment there are whole factions missing(Orks) or classes that are really needed(Eldar Banshee/SH), it would be better if the devs focused on those instead of turning LSM to Ward Knights.
  10. Well this is the Space Marine forum. People are going to talk about what they want for SM. If they want to to discuss what the other factions should have, they can do that on just about every other section of the forums.
