i was reading some of the concerns on the forums concerning balance, lore and the power armoured marine as a starter class. on one side, taking tac marines as the base class is totally understandable from a marketing perspective, but much of the lore would be sacrificed to make them balanced to other armies base classes, which might lead to a huge disappointment of the marine playerbase. there were some discussions on how scout classes should be implemented and if they would be a better choice as class form the balance perspective, so ill try to make some suggestions for the devs that they could consider: every scout configuration could cover a class specialization - scout with bolt pistol and combat knive: covers what later would become an assault marine class - scout with bolter: your alrounder starter class. will upgrade to tac marine - scout with heavy bolter/sniper rifle/missile launcher: your devastators predecessor - scout with a lore friendly healing equipment: your low level apoth i think these would be more fitting as starter classes, would be more lore friendly, easier to balance because they are weaker and make very much sense to have as basic infantry, since theyre initates. power armour marines could in this case made more powerful, and there wouldnt be as much whining about it. as for chaos, they could use heretics/ traitor guard just for the same purpuose. there are mentions in the lore that even tribe fighters that fought alongside chaos marines were promoted to marine status after they have proved themselves in battle. what do you , the players think ? do the devs think this is something worth considering ?
na i think its ok like it is now marines as normal class termies as super class and maybe above that the dread same for CSM and ork nobs are very tough so we dont break the lore if we make them like that to stand up to the spacemarines and well i dont know anything about eldar^^
Ork Nobz are Tough but the Tactical Space Marine still wipes the Floor with their bodies fairly often. But yes that also happens vice versa but not as often. I don't know if any other Faction except for Grey Knights have anything that is comparable to Terminators. The Tactical Marine is Standard for the Marines but for Every other Faction they are Pure Elite and the Terminators unreachable for Infantry. And thank you Stahl.
See, the problem with having a "Scout" starter class is what role would they be? It is hard enough to coordinate players to shoot at the same target, let along go and have a meaningful scouting mission. I think everyone is underestimating how powerful an ork boy is.
i dont think i can make the post any clearer. bolter class is alrounder, sniper, heavy bolter and rocket launcher scout is your early devastator etc. the gear defines your role, not the actual base infantry. and btw, i do think a nob would wipe the floor with a standard marine, unless at range. tau crisis suits and broadsides outclass termies by far, unless in melee.
5 strength, 2 wounds, AND power claw! Add that the possibility of a painboy and they are almost unstoppable. Although with the recent codex changes on wound allocation they are slightly more fragile, they could still rip the literal asshole out of a space marine.
You have to sum up the Battle value, if a Unit exels in just ONE Thing and only there it's battle value is still just mediocre. The Nob is Tough and Strong in Melee but not on Range, making his Battle Value lower then that of an tactical Marine which is overall good, not great but good.
youre a bit overglorifying marines, nobs are tough as steel, and they can be equipped for ranged combat too. overall they exceed marine value, but thats the fun of killing something thats actually stronger than you. as for crisis suits, they rape termies any day. excellent armor, hit points, huge firepower, excellent mobility and technical gimicks, even in close combat they can hold their own thanks to increased strength. theyre not considered elite just for teh lulz.
