Hey there. So I just hit rank 5 on eldar side and i'm looking into the best ways to optimise for hopefully getting my revered Scorpion and standard scorpion as good as they can be. It's always been my favourite class and i just want to get better with it. I did a few searches on the forum and from what I found Lashsword used to be the best weapon but then toughness changed? So in short what is the best weapon for Scorpion and why? Oh and Penetration teeth or damage teeth if it's chainsword? Is clashing engine worth it? Plus in terms of armour and runes I'm running; Advanced armour (+30 armour. armour regen -1 second. toughness rating +20) Icon of Khaine ( 15% Armour regen) Renewing scorpion emblem (30% faster armour regen) Wraithbone Curio major ( +3 armour) Infinity rune Major ( 5% faster armour regen) Wraithbone curio minor (+1 armour.) Basic idea being jump into hopefully kill someone then roll out to regain armour as swiftly as possible then jump back in. Any thoughts or improvements on this?
I like to use Lashsword and Fusion pistol as my weapons, stack double aliment is nice but I like the lashsword because the poison screen filter makes people panic which makes my job easier as they make careless mistakes, the fusion pistol also allows me to sap vehicle assist exp and harass shield bearers into melee combat. Defensively I like to use the obscuring spirit stone for the pronged stealth and the enduring scorpion emblem for the +2 stamina, the stamina is great as it's I frames can actively block way more damage than any other 200lp items available and it lets me dodge 4 d-bashes rather easily as well. I also added a minor isha tear since I had 10lp left as well. I like this play style as it's more focused on active defense and stealth apposed to tanking damage directly, the fusion pistol also gets me lots of exp in a match which is nice. For melee weapon I would say normal chainsword or lashsword, mostly due to cost, for mods I would say pen mods are great as the extra damage mod seems rather minimal and clash generators always, I never want to clang but if you do might as well make it hurt, mastercrafted chainsword is advised if you want to melee spam someone to death and fight other melee classes at an ok level but I'd rather use the spare lp on a grenade than 25 durability. If you really want an armour regen play style you might as well use base chainsword with clash generator basic shuriken pistol bonsinger icon advanced armour renewing scorpion emblem with the leftover lp you the either get a plasma grenade or 2 major and 1 minor wraithcurios and isha tears. No point in getting an extra 15% regen when you could tank an extra shot with that 30 extra armour.
Is the obscuring spirit stone actually worth it? I've never seen a side by side comparison of the stealth.
It's like an extra two or three seconds slower stealth loss so I like it, it's more like a stealth movement bonus in a sense since I have to stop less often. I only take the stone version which has the +30 armour because I can't fill my loadout, it caps at 1000lp exactly with this so it's a nice fit.
The obscuring spirit stone is worth it for one specific case: You defend a cap, you get killed while doing so. Enemy starts contesting, your buddies show up and make a huge commotion. Every enemy start looking one way, trying to shoot your buddies. With the stone, you can crouch-dash into the room and start decapping while still retaining a good deal of stealth, greatly increasing your chance they'll not notice you. It's much harder without the stone as you have to stop dashing far more often to retain some form of stealth.
For my normal Scorpion: Master Crafted Chainsword w/ Pen and lifesteal Obscuring Spirit Stone Wraithcure jewel and Plasma Grenade Standard shuri pistol trinkets to taste This build is made for alpha striking into extended combat. In my experience simple hit-and-run tactics don't work when you really need to push a point or have limited lives to defend one with. Sure you may want to conserve lives or distract the enemy with some sneak attacks, but at some point you have to actually enter the room and clear it to start a cap or drive out invaders. The sword setup lets you stay in combat longer and the stone lets you stealth over long distances when you need to. Grenades are handy as all hell when pushing a point and with a Scorpions ability to successfully disengage from combat the Wraithcure lets you hit and run in a situation where that's actually valid. The revered, in my eyes, is the class you bring out when you actually are in a position to hit&run. I run mine with a Lashsword for this reason, and a little extra armor Just to make sure no one gets lucky while I retreat. Honestly, it all really comes down to play style. If you enjoy defending points on your own you have to be survivable. If you want to be a front line fighter you mod out your sword to suit your needs, and if you hit and run you go lashsword w/ armor regen. I personally like a balanced build which is why I run what I do. One thing I can't comment on is the Fusion Pistol as I haven't touched the thing since the hair dyer situation in alpha, so your guess is as good as mine.
I've had an enormous amount of success running 4 stamina on my scorpion builds, both veteran and basic class. 4 stamina Lashsword Advanced Armor Basic pistol Burning rune (on revered) I think there might be some trinkets in there to fill the gaps, but those are just fillers. I swear by the use of 4 stamina. It's not often I get a melee fight where I don't use 5 or 6 evades before dying. Lashsword is just crazy. 2 trades is enough to down enemies with low health or toughness. Against tougher opponents, the pistol easily finishes them off.
Thank you all! I'll play about with some of these tonight and try to find my ground. I take it the burning rune is pretty much mandatory or revered classes ?
