Sceptical to game becoming an MMO

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Pinktea, Feb 26, 2016.

  1. Besides servers, I'd say the developer swapped made a huge difference.

Lets just think about this for a second.

Basic numbers/stats, not point-somethings no % just basic numbers.
    Simple animations.
    No physics use.
    Simplistic graphics.
Large open maps with creative environments and bases.
Basic combat system with needed elements, block, kick and attack.

    etc etc.

Thats all we needed and that was in pre-alpha.
Why make so many huge changes and complicate the system when it wasn't needed?
We would be way futher into development if they'd just stuck with what the pre-alpha had. All it really needed was to be improved upon.

  2. Oh jesus...

My only argument is that even EC pre-alpha had more complexity than that.
    But even then.....

And at this time we have absolutely no reason to doubt that is their goal.
  4. I think that the big change happened when they switched to U4 engine.

  5. I think the biggest change happened when people who invested the money in this game (i don't mean founders), found out that Miguel was talking stuff to the fan-base that watched the streams and followed him on forum, things that were literally taken out of wizards hat.
  6. That led to the change of the development team.
I meant the change of the technological aspects of the game that Cupcake mentioned.
  7. Three things:

    Pikko Server Fail.
Switch to Unreal Engine for consoles.
    Funding restrictions.

This is honestly something I really don't want to discuss, as this is a mixture of both speculation and assumptions based on limited information. But those three things are the only things which are known to have occurred in the past and were as far as I'm aware, confirmed.

The decision to switch from Unity to the Unreal Engine was made back in mid 2014.

Over a year ago, while the game was still being worked on in Unity.

It was the "thing" which the developers were not allowed to discuss because apparently Miguel struck a deal with Epic where they didn't have to pay as much for a licence if they used EC as a promotional tool for the new Unreal Engine, as a result they were not allowed to talk about it till they got the green light.

And yes, he came on the forums and talked about that too. At the time people didn't know what engine it was going to be, but then again it was an "open secret" apparently. A lot of people said "oh it's Unity" because all the streamed footage of in game was in the Unity prototyping and pre-alpha version, because at the time and leading all the way up until it happened, it was still in Unity.

It was only sometime between June and August 2015 they switched over to Unreal. Apparently the Unity version was just fine, the decision was made purely because they felt it would be easier to get the game to work on consoles and be less development time involved to bring the game to consoles using Unreal, apparently.

Apparently this happened a couple of weeks after a lot of the new team came on board the project too.

That is the truth of it.

If anyone is to blame, blame the marketing people in charge of bE, all the rabid fanboys demanding it for consoles and Games Workshop pushing the game for consoles.

Why is EC not going to be the game you hoped it to be? Simple, Consoles, the Console gamers in our community, the Console market and the people in charge of everything wanting to market the game to Consoles because Space Marine was more successful on Consoles than it was on PC.

Apparently Pikko doesn't work on consoles, also, apparently the developers of Pikko lied to bE that the product was ready to be used for EC by February 2015; It wasn't and it still isn't.

And the sad as well funny truth of it all, EC won't even be ready for Consoles until a much later date. The whole thing ended up being a mess and in my opinion a complete waste of time and resources. If the game was only coming to PC, things would likely be very different.

Wait. They are saying it definitely will be an open world MMO ? That's a pretty serious no no. Where'd you see that ?

Except the phrase is literally everything about the current content. The fact that its in alpha means that everyone that purchased the game and has capability to actually launch the title is a QA tester and should not be expecting "continuous gameplay" beyond the face that 'fun factor' is a part of the general QA we are performing.

Yes, the game does have a fraction of the content, but its nearly impossible to put a game out on Early Access too early because its a product that's currently in the Alpha portion of its development cycle. Anyone that wants an entire game, with all of its promised features, within a week, or a month, of when they purchase it is going to be in for a massive letdown, and that goes for any product released in an Alpha state. Nobody is tricking you into buying a product that's in Alpha, its just a part of every product's development, and we're here to help push the developers in the right direction, not drag them in 20 tangents simultaneously because of "fears" that they won't deliver on their promises.

QA harder, write more bugs, keep putting in suggestions, and stop fretting about what the end product will be because its going to be whatever the developer wants it to be. Not to mention every time this type of thread shows up, developers will never respond unless they are, in fact, actually crunched financially and feel the need to beg players to keep a positive attitude so it will continue selling.
