Then explain the fire in the environment though. How can the game handle fire from a gun be impossible when fire on say, a wrecked rhino, already be in?

Long answer: learn about computer graphics (like me, it's super fun!) It's never a "can't be done" issue, it's a "is it worth the effort and resources?" Resources being both during development and in the finished product for your computer.
It's just what I remember hearing from twitch. Granted it was a while ago but I personally haven't heard them change them mind, did they say they were gonna add flamers? If so I would like to see Salamanders at some point also.
Imagine this everything runs fine and dandy, your shoot people they shoot you game runs smooth. The second someone shoots a flamer you lose 5fps. no bigger game still running good. Now try about 8 people using them bye bye your entire performance. Space Hulk had the same issue. If you want an example of how a flamer works in UT4 engine use the flamer there. They didn't put it online because they ran into the same reason. I would love a flamer but I can't afford 3 GTX 1080 and the supporting hardware............
I can give you the benefit of the doubt cus I can't prove wave of a constant. Personally I would still stand by the same claim it would eat up performance. Maybe not as bad but it may be bad enough where they still would rather post pone it. I guess it would be a good question for the stream good sir!
