Currently the weapons in the RTS are planned to be "side grades" that are stat locked according to this interview http://www.mmogames.com/gamearticle...an-richardsson-warhammer-40k-eternal-crusade/ The way it sounds is the weapons in the RTS will be powerful for someone just starting and 100% useless for veteran players.I gave a suggestion in 2 threads and decided to make my own thread in general where everyone can see it and vote while also giving their own opinions. I feel the RTS will make or break the game and in it's current planned state will break the game after a little bit of time. My views on this matter are that having side grades in the shop is fine and dandy as far as vehicles and hero units go but as far as weapons goes not a very good idea. The stat locked side grade weapons will give a unneeded edge to players willing to pay *aka buying power* and taper off to become useless junk as the player gains exp. IMO that turns the RTS weapons into junk and not worth paying for especially for veteran players. My suggestion is to make the weapons in the RTS function as selectable skins that just go over the default skin. The best way to set it up would be to have a skin tab that functions kinda like how the camo tab would in games like BF4 and COD. The skins would just replace the default weapon and have a unique animation or 2. This would give a nice visual customization that can be used with all weapons of that type without them becoming obsolete and feeling like a waste of money. This would give the weapon skins much more value as you'll be able to buy them and use them no matter how long you've been playing bringing more vet players to buying them while also staying appealing to new players.
I kind figured you would vote skins only because I remember your responses from the old threads. I would have just raised a old thread from the dead but honestly I think that would have been a bad idea. I just made the new one because with the more recent changes to the game it makes this subject that much more important. I said it in the main post and I'll keep saying it to the devs till I'm blue in the face. The RTS will make or break the game and in its current format it's going to end up breaking the game.
i dont mind if they have locked mod slot IF its something similar to what you can have with fully upgraded base weapon and that can add some good visual, like flaming bullet who are on fire!
the problem with locked mods is simple ... if each weapon has a "mod slot" for magazine/barrel/grip/sights/ammo (examples) and each "mod" has at least a couple of variants, then which "mod" you put into each "slot" can dramatically effect the way the weapon works and make it either greatly suited to an individuals game-style or mostly ineffectual in that same players hands, now assume that the "mods" locked into the "slots" of the RTS weapon arnt the ones that would enhance that players game-style, then that player has basically spent REAL MONEY for a weapon that gimps them when they could obtain a free ingame weapon of the same type and mod it successfully FOR NOTHING, at least having RTS items as "skins only" means you have paid for the "look" and the "look" remains wether the weapon is modded properly to suit them or not
it's like the 194304501 topic about that, but i like that the players feel the concern about the shop item.
I like the way the side grades work now, but they should make us able to use them as skins. Aka, they should be both side grades and skins. If I where to choose only one of those two options, then I would definitely choose to have them as skins, since I have always preferred a cool/good looking character over an efficient one. Remember; "A painted miniature is always better than a grey one" or "Shiny Pokemons are better than normal ones". Stats simply do not matter
Voted 'I have my own opinion'. From what I've seen so far, I won't be paying a single cent for cosmetics. So that's out of the question. I would be more than glad, however, to pay real money for an interesting mechanic that would distinguish the weapon from it's in-game equivalents. I was really excited for the idea Miguel was trying to sell and I'm more than disappointed with what's become of RT store. 'Pay to look cool' is all fine and well, but looking cool is something very subjective, that's one thing. The other is, that with a rigid licence as 40k, you can't go overboard with how things look (thank God), so I predict, that the cosmetic variants will quickly become pretty repetitive. But at this point, I think, we need to look for other solutions. Something quite interesting would be having mod-locked weapons, but with unique mods, that expand the weapon's functionality. A few examples, to show, what I have in mind: Ulthwe, Warpfire Pike (Fire Dragons) - Shorter charge time; long range with no AoE damage; magic user hit will lose a significant portion of his/her Warp Charges. Biel-Tan, Ceremonial Scythe (Howling Banshees) - Slower than swords; knock-back when blocked; bonus RPs for executions. Iyanden, Whispers of Ynnead (Swooping Hawks) - Grenades; lower damage; greater AoE; each kill earned this way contributes to lowering the cost of spawning as a Wraith Guard. Saim-Hann, Baptised Lance (Warlocks) - Each nearby kill provides a boost to attack speed for a duration; ignore shields when fighting foes, who recently killed an Eldar.
I wrote a post earlier in some other thread, '' the weapons won't be useless over time, it just might have normal ammo as opposed to ARP ammo. ARP ammo might have a slower firing rate whereas normal ammo will fire fast to accomodate for killing basic power armoured players as opposed to terminators or tanks. All Nathan meant was yeh, you might only be able to choose this weapon if there are only non-heavy armored players to fight or whatever other constraints they might have. Yeh so basically they are only going to be statistically weaker due to lack of variation and customizable for every situation. I'm gonna go on some serious killing sprees when I use these weapons regardless of weather we are on release day or 2 years after! I would prefer they be skins but I think atleast ammo should be interchangeable, but you have to keep the scope, barrel or whatever other mods are fixed to it!
