"I don't think the gameplay of this game makes it a good game for RP. RP in PvP zones isn't fun, besides it's a heavy blow to the immersion to die in an 10 Minute cycle. You better look for an Forum RP or something." Nah, I don't agree with you there sir but I think that some other roleplayers will agree with you though, but not me.
Hrm.. tell me how to make immersive and undisturbed RP in an almost pvp only type of Game? I'm seriously interested so please tell me.
It's easy. Ignoring that you're being disturbed by whatever you think is. I have been roleplaying in PS2 without any problems or obstacles. it really depends on you mate. You can roleplay in everything so long that you think you can, you can definitely roleplay in DayZ if you wish. But how? I don't know my friend since I don't know how EC will be like in terms of game-play. Will it be like PS2? (Planetside) there were someone who mentioned in the RP thread that it'll be more like Gears of War which I hope not. But telling you how YOU can make an immersive RP? then it boils down to the question of what a sort of a roleplayer you are? I can respond to the chaos around me with no problem or guidelines for I know my character - I am always in-character more or less.
Well it's more about the nature of the game that you WILL get killed under 10 Minutes most the time and in warhammer there is no revive stuff like in PS2 where death means literally nothing in lore and gameplay. Thats not there, die and your character is dead too or if you ignore that you constantly have to run around to get to your Guys. What i COULD think of would be RP at the Home Base.. but than again.. it's warhammer, the Marines don't hang around at their home base for long.. Eldar or IG (maybe Orks too..) would be the best factions to RP in i think since they allow much more than the other factions which are bound by their doctrine, gods or nature to go into battle as fast as possible and stay there till the mission is complete. And i still don't think that this is a good Area for RP. But yeah guess it's not impossible but i still think it's not a great game for RP. Thanks for your Response!
I think you and I both RP in different ways, warfare is an aspect of roleplay simply put. But as I mentioned before I have no idea how the game-play will be in EC therefor I rather remain optimistic about it rather then a pessimist. I don't enjoy tavern RP but after "battling" fighting whatever it can be a nice change to sit down with your bro in arms and celebrate that you're still alive. PS; Your character death is when you decide it's time to kill it off, I know that some roleplayers believe that when they die in the field by gaming mechanics they have to delete their characters for it, that's entirely up to them though but I think it's kind of "odd".
Sure i'm in charge of my character.. but to see him die over 50 Times a day kills the immersion for me. Thats the biggest problem imho that the game mechanics disturbs my RP session. I enjoy "Conflict-RP" quite much. But based on game mechanics it's not really good since it doesn't care for what your character is supposed to be(and is also quite fast over.. not very thrilling!).When it comes down to RP i'm up to everything and even done nearly everything. But here.. i could only imagine to Rp Via TS or Skype while playing the Game.. something like just playing the game Incharacter and ignore every death of myself.. but that could be fun too i guess.. hrmm...
You see, I have no problem about seeing my characters dying over 50 times, it doesn't break my immersion. But that's completely up to you. But as mentioned above we'll see how the gameplay mechanics will be.
As would I. But I feel like they could be stylized to fit each race, as opposed to having all of them be a simple white, comic-book bubbles. Stylish Wraithbone outlines for Eldar, bolted metal and general scrap for Orks, some horrific, leering faces for Chaos, and glorious Gothic-architechture for the Astartes.
Actually, this was one of my bigger gripes as a RPer in Warhammer Online. Don't get me wrong, it made a smidgen of tactical sense and definitely avoided "ROFL YOU DIED, NooB!" comments over the dead. But when you were actually facing off against an enemy 1:1 having just stumbled on each other, it was a shame that you had to resort to /emote gestures to get across to each other the general sense of "Die, hated scum" and grunt vaguely at each other before attacking. On the note of RPing, though, its definitely possible in a PvP focused game - both in the field and away from it. The idea that you spend almost all the time in frenzied combat simply isn't true in MMOs - there's a surprisingly consistent amount of waiting/lurking downtime between fights.
