Rokkit Launchas - Damage VS vehicle output

  1. Excuse me, I am no military expert but if a tank or APC or similar gets shot by a rocket, ON IT'S BACK, it is supposed to :

    either go down,

burn away and explode over time,

damage it's engine, thus making it unmovable until someone repairs it

It does none of these in the game, so far. I still remember playing Down of War I/II and my favorite squads were always the anti-vehicle orkz using launchas to make Space Marines regret even fielding a Rhino in battle.

Even when I shoot on the back of a vehicle it always takes more than 8 shots to take down a Rhino, frequently I get found by a SM and they kill me by surprise.

Sometimes, it's faster to just run to a Trukk/supply crate and reload bomb stikks to get APCs down in the game. This weapons needs a serious buff, since orkz have no real way to counter vehicles in the game, while every other faction have either meltas or fusion weapons.

The innacuracy of the rokkit launcha forces me to go close or medium distance, so I can always hit the back of the rhino. Shooting from far away in a "safe" spot - not counting ASM/Raptor attacks, since it's easy to spot a green guy shooting rockets at enemy vehicles - means taking FOREVER to get a enemy vehicle down.

Also, 80% of the times a suicidal melta/fusion enemy will take down vehicles, even when they die in the process. This is simply not fair for ork players, since we're always at disavantage for not being able to take down APCs from the enemy.

P.S : I have been using the standard rokkit launcha, is the Dead Shiny one any better or is it the same?

Rokkits are fairly well balanced relative to their purpose. Decent anti vehicle with 1 hit kill verses infantry, although I do wish that they would do some AOE stun like their tactical plasma counterparts.

The problem is meltas are OP, not that rokkits are UP.

Wasn't there some issue with the standard Rokkit Launcher compared to the box ones? Could be that, although i don't have any idea, haven't leveled up my Ork character that far yet.

Dead shiny has better flight paths for more accuracy at range.
  5. Even if you ignore the meltas, Rokkit Launchas just doesn't have any damage output to make it even worthwhile at all.

I'd rather just use a Slugga with a Power Klaw instead.

So what's even the point of it?

The answer to that is obvious I thought....

    It has range.

But the wild inaccuracy removes that range making it still used mostly at medium and short range.

Would be nice if they just ignored vehicle armor entirely and did full damage regardless of where they hit. Especially against eldar since their vehicles move around so much.

  8. The 10k purchasable rocket does about half the damage to vehicles as the ones from the crates do.

It isn't great even with the extra damage, but it is definitely useful just because of the range and the one-shot corner hump potential.

The no-shop one (found in 5k boxes) does 1400 dmg, rather than the puny 600 dmg the shop one does.

It's way more viable, 2x sticky sticks and 3 rockets will end a tank

    Two things about the OP.

First, real-life anti-tank rockets make use of the Munroe (sp?) effect to create a plasma stream that melts a hole through the armor and proceeds to raise the temperature of the internal compartment to the point where the crew instantly dies, all electronics are ruined, and sometimes the ammo supply detonates from the heat. Orks have little knowledge of science so they probably neither know about the Munroe effect nor create shaped charges to make use of it.

Second... the M1 Abrams actually doesn't get blown up when you hit it with an RPG-7. There are Abrams tanks that saw service in Iraq that have been struck by over 50 RPG-7 hits and kept functioning without the crew or tank being harmed much. I don't know what kind of armor they use to defeat a plasma stream weapon, and part of that reason is because their armor composition is still classified information despite the Abrams having been designed at least 30 years ago.
