That seems overboard as players will have less incentive to buy the game if they get free points when they die. Just restricting it to simple cosmetic items would be better imo. You die to get poor man's swag but still have to play to get better equipment.
No to currency yes to free cosmetic gear. Need to bait and reward players, otherwise its a quick burnout!
Perhaps a spike with a dead ork head on it? Each time you die a head is added until it eventually reaches into orbit? Joking aside, I agree to cosmetics.
F2p does not mean brain-dead, and are not some 'other' type of player altogether. They are people just like you and me. I would ask you this- If you could not afford to, or were not permitted to have a paid account, how would you like to be treated? Would you play if your toon was just another 'plain jane' grunt? Yes, there are some really, realllyyyy bad players that play on any game, but these folks are not exclusively f2p. Wallet warriors are just as bad, (and the reason we all hate pay to win games), so instead of thinking up ways to help the stupids (ie: f2p) think up ways that everyone can enjoy. Because, I assure you, if there is an achievement for dying it will not be a f2p player that gets it done first, deeders will rush to die, just to unlock it, even if they have to cancel their account for awhile to get it, and that is not helping anyone. For f2p, I would think longer cooldown/lockouts may be in order, or in game costs higher (paid =20% off on (x) item. etc.) Anything that f2p runs into and sees 'paid members only' will be a letdown, and that will drive them away.
I'm in total agreement here. Why would you ever want to reward people for helping the enemy? Why not just place a bigger reward on capturing/progressing objectives or getting assists within an objective zone? Actually that's a pretty neat idea if anyone's interested: Why not make assists within an objective zone worth the same amount as a normal kill? Of course actual kills in the zone would need to be buffed in return.
"I got my Dead Git's Skull Cap after running and letting the enemy kill me without putting up a fight 900 times. It took me a few weeks without firing a shot back but I got it. I'm so rad" Players who play games wont do this. Even if they're achievement hunters, normal players will outnumber these strange minded fellows in the battle field. People act like everyone will just let the enemy farm kills off of them just over a hat or a ugly poor man's cosmetic item. That's pretty stupid.
cosmetic items and slightly faster respawn times would be cool and I agree with the op, only a v small minority will care enough to let the enemy farm them for a crappy hat, especially if by fighting back they'll get a better one by just a few lucky kills
To clarify: RTP = Rogue Trader Points , the digital store currency for the RTS (Rogue Trader Store) and purchased with real money or earned in-game ("earned" details To Be Determined and livestream source linked below.) RP = Requisition Points, the in-game currency to play as & with vehicles/elites/heroes/special ammo/etc and won't buy cosmetics. Now onto the topic, I don't see the point in having the proposed "dying tons is now an achievement, have free swag" system. Neat and amusing? Maybe from an orky perspective but so tedious, insignificant, not a bragging point and potentially detrimental to the game why even bother putting development/system resources into it. As a pick me up after dying a lot? Well the victory after the struggle is the pick me up, the fun had playing the game to die and kill and PTFO is the incentive. (Bonus as a team because teamwork is OP and friends improve everything) It has also been said that players may be able to get RTP by playing the game (jump to 40:38.) Exact details remain To Be Determined (TBD). If that's true then there's additional incentive for F2W players. Like the game? Keep playing it and you can enjoy it while eventually getting more of the game. If you really like it then throw money at the game to support it and get stuff to improve your experience and look cool. There's also the Ork Pioneer Pack, which is essentially a Freemium status, in the RTS. Players can add to that and build up to the $40 (40,000 RTP) at which point Freemium orks get the whole game unlocked. I wonder if the RTP generated from playing the game adds to that threshold? Also this thread made me wonder if there will be some sort of limited progression in cosmetics/classes for F2Wers/Freemiums since other players will have class progression and cosmetics from actions in the game (likely campaigns + class progression trees.) EDIT: "As a Free to WAAAGH! Ork, you will have the full and complete access to the core of the Ork units: Loota, Shoota and Choppa boyz. - The rest of the Ork progression will be unlockable through the store at your discretion. You will be able to unlock the classes and vehicles you want according to your gameplay preferences." @ https://www.eternalcrusade.com/free-to-play Random unrelated thought, if they have an achievement list in EC. I would like one for orks to be after killing a number of Eldar it says, even better your character says, "I got Eldar blood all over me! It's so shiny." One of my favorite lines from Dawn of War 2 ork slugga boyz. Many of the ork lines in that, including the announcer, are good actually hehe.
That's a pretty extreme generalization there. Not once did I ever hint that "everybody" would do this. On the other hand, if even 2 or 3 people are intentionally letting their teammates down or rushing in without regard to safety in order to further an achievement or item collection then the game is made worse by said achievements/items. Not everybody will do this, but it only takes one jerk to ruin the game everyone else is playing.
