I guess but when the entire team is saying "Breach here" over mics for a few minutes before they realise we're outside this wall kinda screwed us over and even then didn't breach it for us. The Plasma Cannons can usually TK unintentionally just trying to clear an objective and end up hitting a few of their own team accidently. Or so they always say, I think they're just eager to cover us in their sweet sweet plasma. The 5-6 seems a bit much if you ask me because 5-6TKs can ruin a lot of the game. In the grand scale it can mean little but in a certain attack on an objective can turn the game around if it is a horrible objective to take that happens to be lightly defended for whatever reason but I'm just using the worst situation there I guess... Yep, some people are cunts for the sake of being cunts. I wouldn't say that K/D Ratios encourage a CoD style gameplay experience. In all shooters I feel it is my objective to die as little as possible, dying is failing and failing is losing with then surviving being succeeding and succeeding is winning. So if I lose with a positive K/D ratio I feel like I still have a bit of pride afterwards but if I got the shit kicked out of me and had a humiliating defeat I just take it as my due. Sure taking objectives is paramount but killing is a major player in the game and even if I never make it to an objective but kill the defenders around the objective and on the objective doesn't that mean I'm still being a team player because I'm clearing the objective for others to push up? Eeven then if I'm not paying attention because I'm so focused on taking an objective and haven't been counting my deaths because I'm more focused on taking the objective if I look and see I've died five times or so without killing anyone or being doing much to the objective then I know "Holy fuck what the fuck am I doing!" so I can change my plan of action to make sure I'm not being a drain upon the team. Gives me more the feeling if at the end I look and saw you got 18 kills and I think not bad but then see you had 37 deaths and all those feelings of doing good goes out the window. Could be my mindset that every life you must get a kill to make up for your inevitable death...
This is flat false and a presumptuous loaded statement. Many people just enjoy knowing statistics and performances of players in their match, because it's fun for them to know. Just like players in conventional sports enjoy knowing the statistics of other players. The game is about fun. Using more than 4 different colors of various shades doesn't serve any purpose, except for fun. Having different insignias, weapons, different SFX, character models, different maps, and on and on serve no other purpose than fun. No one is in the position to dictate what someone should or shouldn't enjoy, let alone presume the motive of an entire player base for enjoying knowing statistics about the game.
This. To presume every player that enjoys knowing statistics intends to use the information as a "weapon" is as dick an attitude as said player. Additionally, you're not proposing a remotely efficacious remedy for toxic behavior. Ass holes don't need hard data to troll you, they don't even need legitimate reasons.
Statistics don't ruin the game. Statistics are not the cause of toxic troll behavior, they're not even an accessory to the "crime." While from the responses I see, some people are thin skinned and so insecure as to be threatened by trollish behavior, but I think most people are unintentionally scapegoating statistics because of the fallacious belief that K/D causes or exasperates trollish behavior. It's idiotic and infantilizing to remove a feature which is not the cause of a problem, for the sake of sparing one's feelings at the expense of those enjoying said feature. Lastly, although I find e-peening and bragging eye roll inducing, I wouldn't want to fucking piss on other peoples game play experience to prevent someone from bragging. Seriously, you're that insecure? That's your issue, not ours.
For me other than harkus and any future maps that use that type of game play I see no use for K/D ratio. As some have said having stats in the game don't hurt it but nor does not having them. For trolls yes they will alway be trolls no matter what and yes they will use the K/D as a tool to troll but that is not reason enough for me to get rid of it. So for me I'm fine with D gone as I don't use it to help define how I play or want to play. Though I would be fine as it being a personal stat for you to see and not others. Though instead of D maybe a most time spent respawning would be a better metric, just a random thought there.
Main reason seems to be people will be (Or at least can be) dicks if they have K/D ratios for everyone seen. So what if I get killed, it shouldn't even be in the killfeed who died because someone could use that as a way to insult me because I died. Just because trolls can use the K/D as a way to shit and giggle to others doesn't mean everyone should lose the K/D ratio because that is claiming that if the weapon wasn't there the criminal wouldn't have used it. If someone has the intent to commit a crime they'll find a way to commit it, just as if someone really wants to troll they'll find a way to do it, be it trapping someone in corner so they can't move, shooting around them to give away their position or even going as far as was mentioned earlier shooting someone to rip off 75% of their health or around that so they aren't TKs but still hampers the team. There are other reasons such as the I don't want to see my K/D and there isn't a way around it really which personally I don't really get but there are many different style of gamers here with some who're just here to have a fun time and don't care about their K/D and being greeted by it could be annoying for them or someone has been a dick in the past to them, others who're into slaughtering the weak so the strong can thrive and some who've only got about twenty minutes or so out of their busy schedule wanting a quick game before going off to do something else and don't really care if they were MLG PRO at the game so long as they enjoyed their experience. But yeah I feel like this thread is going around in circles with nothing useful happening now. Could be wrong though...
remember that some of us have the VOIP disabled ... dont expect everyone to hear what you say over a mic EDIT also you dont always have control over how often you die ... being spawn camped for instance would skyrocket your death count and we did have some examples of people bailing out of games when their KDR started to drop earlier during the alpha (usually when faced with premades/guilds)
Yes some people do but in Rainbow Six Siege if you choose the attacker who can breach the walls that've been reinforced it is kinda in your MO to blow those walls if possible... And while yes it does have that issue as I've played games people in this thread or it could have been that one about muting people because they just play crap down the mic for some reason unknown. I don't ever really check my overall K/D Ratio only for that game to check how well I did in there. It is only when someone else checks and tells me I've got a 2.0 or something like that over lifetime. If you're in a spawn trap and someone tries to gloat about that it is saying you beat a bunch of tribesmen with spears while you're using chemical warfare. It is a little one sided. People will always bail out of games and it isn't they see they've died 10 or 20+ times it is the fact they're dying so much that just pisses them off. I've had many games where I spawn and die as if I'm playing the life of a Guardsman and it just fucks me off. I usually stay till the end of all my games just because leaving early is a bitch thing to do but if people have other things to do then Real Life is going to precedent.
