And you never encountered ANY of the mass bitching and complaints between guilds? You don't remember EU Lotro 5 seperate guilds fighting over the name "The Fellowship"? You don't remember the cesspit that community became because of issues like this? You don't remember the mass petitions to ban lore names? Funnily enough it was the people who actually played the game complaining. There was a reason it was done in SWG as well. It worked out for the better. The other problems are you have guilds from 4 major organizations per faction. You don't think the big Ultramarine guilds aren't going to raise hell, bitch, complain and generally ruin any community that chapter has because of issues like these? It has nothing to do with immersion in the most basic sense (Though it is shit). It has everything to do with community.
its simply stupid to name a guild like a chapter in which other SM belongs. They are already Blood Angels, Ultramarines etc. It makes no sense to make a guild with this name. I don't see any point in this naming a guild like a chapter.
I wouldn't get that stressed out over this. It can't be healthy. This is very simple. More so if you dismiss the "there was a Bad Moons Ork called Ultramarine, who was part of the Black Legion guild" aspect. Simply, if there is a bunch of people playing Blood Angels divided among a whole bunch of guilds... and one of those guilds has the prestigious name "Blood Angels" because they came first... maybe, just maybe all those other Blood Angels would be bothered. They're Blood Angels too, after all. And maybe it wouldn't be the best course of action to just ignore them. Rationally speaking, it seems to make more sense to make a couple of guilds unhappy than a potentially substantial number of players. Then again, having some guys have a guild named after your faction shouldn't cause immense rage or grief. That would be childish.
No I really don't remember any of that, and no matter how much I google (I'm on page 15 on Google) I have yet to see any of that debacle. And also that's irrelevant, as that seems to be using the exact name, and not for example 'The Fellowship Clan'. Actually most complaints I see (at for example here) are related to people being called 'BeerCan'. And in SWG it was about immersion, not anything else. And no I don't think people will complain about a clan named 'Ultramarines RUS'. There might be a vocal minority, but generally speaking I think people will be too busy breaking heads to care.
You want to know something infuriating for "lore-fanatics"? Yes, those who hate people who would name their guilds "Ultramarines" or those "Official names". If the game is big enough, there might be over 1000 marines of each chapter. Which would break the Lore. For each chapter has only 1000 marines What would you say about that? How would you swallow it, deal with the fact that you are in a battle with, maybe, 2000 ultramarines, when the chapter should only have 1000?
The main problem by allowing Lore stuff is that the following will happen: Ultramarines The Ultramarines Ultramarines of Macragge Ultramarines of Ultramar Ultramar Marines Ultramarines of Calth Calth Marines Macragge Marines Calgars Marines Marines of Calgar Honor Guard of Calgar Calgars Honor Guard Ultrasmurfs The Ultrasmurfs Ultramsurfs of Ultramar Ultrasmurfs of Macragge Macragges Warriors Warriors of Ultramar Warriors of Macragge Warriors of Calth Calths Guardians Macragge Guardians and so on. So basically you will have those typical 100 guilds which have all ALMOST the same name and 90% of these guilds are inactive and / or operated by 1 to 10 people.
And why exactly would it bother you if a clan is calling itself Ultrasmurfs of Ultramar, even if that clan is inactive and / or operated by 1 to 10 people?
I might be a minority but I have absolutely no issue with most of those. Just Ultramarines, Word Bearers, Biel-tan etc.
Demz will be ultrasmurfs whethah dey want ta be o not. Eff ya blue wit a toilet bowl den youz brought et upon yerselvez.
