Rolls still have i-frames. However, if you wanted to remove them, make roll distances farther, the animation faster, and the recovery shorter, otherwise they're going to be useless. The idea currently is that you can re-position without being punished. If you make it punishable, there will never be a point to use it.
it will probably look like this :: http://plays.tv/video/580133ed0240f2b140/jpa-jumps-me-and-should-have-had-me-?from=user
im pretty sure as someone who melees a lot and gets meleed a lot that iframes on rolls only work for rendered projectiles with physics like the plasma cannon blobs.
I-frames are stupid and unreliable, you should avoid damage by moving quicker and making yourself a smaller target, not just because you pressed a button at the right time. I voted yes because i'm dumb and though the question was if they should be removed.
It doesn't change anything for melee, you can't roll away from melee. You dodge one attack with a roll then what? Then nothing, you take the second hit in the fact while you'll recover from the roll. All it does right now is allowing you to dodge ranged weapons and explosions.
Keep them, it's a good countermeasure. Without them it would go even further in melee classes favour. And if we changed it for faster movement to evade it would go too much in the ranged favour if you could simply run away anytime the going get's tough. It also gives a reason to invest in stamina regen and plus stamina so you can pull off evasions more often. It also encourages ranged class not to go lone ranger so much or they will probably be hunted down, as it should be. Instead they have to stay in groups giving mutual support. The proper space marine way.
doesnt matter for faster weps though. i've had times where i literally flipped over the attacking enemy only to have their auto lock turn them around mid swing and hit me anyway. the only real way to dodge melee attacks and plasma cannons is to time i-frames.
Imo, they should be either removed completely or the rolls should make you invulnerable for the whole duration. Otherwise its too luck dependent. Good luck timing these i-frames & learning to counter them with all the different animations of different races & different weapon speeds & bugs and lags. Also the fact that you can ignore your own grenade going up at your feet is just retarded. I'd prefer the first option, the range of lunges could be toned down a bit to make rolls more effective if they suddenly stop working without iframes. Which would make melee less retarded too.
