This was being discussed in the Eldar "reasons to fight" thread, thought we should make this seperate so they can get back on topic. This is just the Tau, we can do other races in another thread later on (i plan on it!) So explain the following: How do 5 Septs worth of Tau get to the EC world? Why are they fighting? I made the title broad so lets also talk about: Whats Septs do you want to see? What "classes" should be playable?? How will those classes be playable?? Should Drones be included? NPC, Player controlled? And finally! Should the Riptide, the Tau pinical of war be included??
Posted by myself in the Eldar thread: One Ethereal wouldnt warrent that much attention, im not even sure the Space Pope himself would get that kind of attention. Also the Tau dont use the Warp to travel, they tech is more similar to Necrons when it comes it space travel. I've read mixed info that they may do tiny warp jumps but i highly doubt it. Farsight is a good bet, but location wise he is pretty damm close to the Tau Empire, so not much difference. This is a major tangent for Eldar's motivation but lol... How to inlucde the Tau, First thing that comes to mind is that Farsight and his Army is being chased or about to do battle with the Tau Empire. Farsight has suspicious about the Warp (reference his supplement) but is not corrupted as some people thought, more like manliptated. So to avoid conflict or as part of one with the Empire (say 4 septs worth? ) he flees into one of the nearby Warp Storms (they are bordered by a few, some massive) and while they dont understand it they end up at the EC world. Tau are practical so whats left of the fleets (because they arent desinged/protected from warp travel) have to team together. Reason for fighting on the planet? Damaged ships. The Air Caste is only able to get them to the cloest planet, they are not able to leave as they Earth Caste needs the resources on the planet to repair the ships, plus it offers a diplomatic (because water caste) chance to commune with the other Factions. This of course doesnt work (well) so cue the Fire Caste. Classes Tacitcal/Main: Fire Warriors Light/ Main: Pathfinders Heavy Support/ Long Range: Drone Controller (See below) Elite/ Heavy option/ Jump: Crisis Suits (can upgrade to Broadsides) Hero: Etheral/ Commander (suit of your choice) Vehicles Transports: Devilish Tank: Hammerhead Heavy Tank: Riptide This is tough as we dont know how the class system will work. So my thinking as follows Patherfinders as the "start". Followed by Fire Warriors as the main of the army, Long range support is Drone controllers (see below), the upgrade/heavy infantry choice being crisis or you could have them relatively weak (they dont really have that strong of armour TT wise) and keep them as the Jump option for Tau. I think the Riptide should be included, as its their only real heavy armour option (Land Raiders for SM = Riptide for Tau) Drone Controller: I thought this would be a neat and different way of doing it as opposed to Broadsides (too much armour and fire power, more a vech class to me). You have each player as the Drone Controller, with his portable "computer". Default drones are regualr carbine ones and you get 10. Lets let the Drones be NPC, simiple attack and defend on you when your moving because you really only get a pistol. You "set up" your computer/controller (somewhere secure i hope) and you can now controll where your drones go, up to X distance. Your now looking at a map interface of your immediate area, mostly blanked/red except for close by where you can send your drones. They react to markers you can place on this map. "move" "defend" "attack" "return" as examples. If you die the drones are destroyed. If the drones all die you can either "buy" more of them at your computer or at a Faction interface (vechile/base) or you could have them auto spawn on you when they die (cool down/limited respawns, 30 sec respwn per drone after death?). They would be lower damage and health because they are drones, but could still kill a few players/ harass, particularly when controlled right. As you "level up" in this class and unlocked more advanced abilites you could have different drone types, longer range, etc. Thoughts?
