I kinda want to revisit the melee option though. Now I'm thinking of a whip with barbs on the end, the handle connected by flesh to the bearer...or thinking back to those tentacle mouth it might be a tendril tongue that extends. So many otpions!
Demonettes and loads of cultist. Warps Dust and loyalist progenoid glands as a consumables are a must. And if I could get beaded curtains made of Spirit Stone, puffy eldar flesh floor cushions and a lava lamp for private quarter options, that be nice. #NotOnlyAboutBodilyFluidsAndWigglingExtraBits! @BikerTroll
This is your key point I think. 'Excess' isn't some sort of universal standard ("Right, you've now experienced Lust to level 100, as defined by some universal constant, you're now suffering it in Excess"), it's relative to the person experiencing it. Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Avarice etc may indeed not be felt as keenly by the Space Marines because of x reason, but that doesn't mean they're immune to it. If they have limited experience with it, then that makes dealing with those emotions even harder because they are not emotionally capable of it. Think of it as taking someone and desensitizing them to violence, it's the real world equivalent. Because Slaanesh is this, I think it's more than possible to make a cracking good video game without devolving into 'lol bewbs' etc. While I don't actually mind this facet of Slaanesh, I know that there are a few people who dislike it because of any number of reasons. Miniwargaming Matt himself personally expressed discomfort with that nature of Slaanesh, and obviously he wouldn't be the only one. Therefore, I believe it would behoove not just Behaviour Interactive but also Games Workshop to, if not downplay this trait (which imo is still important), then to bring into attention that Slaanesh is more than just an 80's glam rockband. In the attempt to try and make a game with the most widespread appeal (which of course includes as many ages as possible), I believe it would make good business sense in and of itself to try and tone it down. So, what are some 'real' ways to Add Slaanesh into the game? • The Mark of Slaanesh. The icon of both male and female is perfectly acceptable imo. It implies a sense of sexualism without it being overt, and people probably wouldn't even realise what it means without it being pointed out in the first place. • Whips and chains melee weapons. Something like Wych cult weapons, although obviously they would just be regular 'hand weapons.' Would they be anything special? Some might, but it isn't really needed. While you can't see Noise Marine models with whips etc without some conversions, Lucius The Eternal carries around one. Make them more mean looking rather than a set prop from BDSM though. • Armour customizations. Thigh high boots (lol), perhaps something like Pinhead helm (although I can't help but think that's probably more Haemonculi customization, but meh, they all worship She Who Thirsts anyway). Open bicep reveal (such as Kharn The Betrayer's model) or the like. And of course, tentacles to put the fear of the gods into all Japanese schoolgirls. • Weapons. The sonic weaponry is obviously the favourite to be included post-launch, but that doesn't mean Bolters and the like can have Slaanesh/Chaos type tinges. Whether it be something like scales growing on the weapon to even idle animation where the Slaanesh wielder caresses his weapon or whatever.
Sure, why not? Your ideas are as good as mine or anybody elses. Suffice to say, I think it's more than possible to make 'appropriate' Slaanesh things without being gratuitous. Gratuitous isn't going to get past national censors, gratuitous isn't going to convince parents to buy it for their kids to play (and lets leave the elitest bs out of this thread, because at the end of the day we all want a cracking good game to play, and I've met some 14year olds that comport themselves with more maturity than some 21 year olds, if you can believe that) and more to the point, you don't need gratuitous to make it fun anyway.
To me Slaanesh Marines are the Rockstars who turn it up to 11, the Extreme Sportsmen, the Motorheads, the guys who ask "could we?" but not "should we?" of 40K. They're alternate lifestyle that involves piercings and tattoos to make them feel 'more beautiful', always seeking the next thrill. They also can be the preening pretty-boys of CSM. I would expect them to have tattoo like patterns on their armour, piercing-like studs and spikes, whilst being draped in interesting materials (leather made from human skin), with access to interesting combat drugs. The Pretty-Boys should be all blinged-up with garish coloured armour. Weapons for them should include items like Palantine Blades, Sonic Weapons, and weapons designed to overload the senses like vision (Bolt rounds that leave contrails and explode in psychedelic colours?).
Well the book of excess ( fantasy flight) did a nice job explaining Slaanesh and Astartes. Most of them will fall under "Pridefull". Its a manly man world in a war era were mortal see them as demi gods... bragging rights, martial skills and who's the best at this and that. Slaanesh is known to bless amazing duelists and assassins with more speed, faster reflexes, more precision. The perfection of a single hit, the execution of a hard to master technic. For a newly fallen astartes who only knew a life of constant restrictions and personal denials, the new liberty of doing "everything he wants" might be more then a attractive prospect. Most of them will keep a rather martial view to life because hell that what they know best...and some others will go completely haywire. If those closer to Khorne hack and slash their way down the battlefield leaving a trail of blood behind them, they don't care of pretty moves as long at it work. It is messy and brutal. Those closer to Slaanesh are dancing across the same field, picking opponents here and there only to regal in the perfection of their mastery. It is flamboyant and artful. In a MMO setting Slaaneshi would be closer to rogue then warrior: fast, deceitful,precise,unpredictable... Sadly so far no cultists planed in the game but I find cultists to be a important part of Slaaneshi "culture". Because a big part of being awesome is to be praised by loads of enamored fans.
Yeah I think having the marks of the four (and one for Undivided) is probably the most important thing they can have for the Chaos faction. That's what people love about Chaos in WH40K - the different options you have with choosing your deity. Some of me and my friends' most entertaining conversations have been about which Chaos god we think the others would wind up falling to! (The consensus seems to be I'd wind up with Nurgle since I hate change so much :--P)
