He has an unimaginably large beef with furries that is not grounded in any sort of reality and goes way beyond a degree any reasonable person would consider justified. For some reason he decided to sig one of my replies to his repeated rantings where he questioned my sex life to a degree no stranger really should on a public forum. Let's not let it tarnish the thread, and just ignore it.
One of the things I noticed in that video is that everything they cut was dragged down the blade toward the wielder. You'd basically drag the target closer. Also I always imagined the swing being an Astartes thing. Swing it using your power armour and augmented strength to drive the blade in as deep as you can, make sure it's got a nice solid bite and then engage the blade, shredding the squishy bits inside. The rest is just game play concession. At least, that's how it's always been in my headcannon
Pretty good points. And yeah, Eviscerators are weird. They can literally cut Land Raiders in half from what I've heard.
You'd hold the blade sideways, not up and down. I think I forgot to mention that. Frankly, chainswords are literally a defensive weapon. That is the purpose they were designed for - holding off enemy melee and forcing them to face the chainsword instead of you. Also, if that's how you'd imagine using a chainsword, take a safety tutorial before ever using any sort of power saw. Because you don't start power saw blades running while they're in contact with anything but air. That's just asking for trouble.
Hmm~ the animations in Space Marine always looked 'right' to me if I'm honest with you. Skip to 7:45 Seems like he always swings the blade in such a way the teeth would get purchase. Though yes I get the point of this post is to point out that's probably wrong but... I dunno. Never looked wrong to me, heh ^^
I do actually recall a depiction that looked right. I think it was from the Dawn of War 2 intro cinematic, where one of the Space Marines with a chainsword attacks an Eldar with it, and he doesn't just slash, once his blade makes contact, he keeps pushing, hard, and doesn't break contact until the Eldar's dead.
Sometimes in lore they mention evicerators actually having a power field, or the ever popular Exterminator flamer attachment that superheats the blade, but are heavy and unwieldly due to sheer size and mass to make up for the fact they're mostly used by unaugmented humans. A Repentia (the more common user) only ever gets one blow on a target if they can get past the gunline, but that damn one blow's gonna make up for it.
Given the tendency of heat to soften metal, I cannot imagine the possible purpose in superheating a chainsword. I mean, if it's supposed to make it hurt more by inflicting heat too... well, you're using a chainsaw as a weapon. That is one of the most awful violent deaths I can imagine. But I could easily see installing flamers of some sort to give the blade a flamethrower attack if desired. And then I remembered that the invention of the Eviscerator likely came with the Ecclesiarchy, and by then humanity had already started to regress technologically and scientifically so the fact it might soften the blade probably didn't matter as much as increasing terror and brutality to keep Imperial citizens in line by providing heretics as awful a death as could be imagined.
