At 1st i was in this exact same spot, thinking with myself that heavy gunner classes are just so much superior, but after a while i started to understand how to actually melee and now, even tho i still main a loota, i use my slugga boy a lot because its so damn fun, besides i can rack quite a few kills with him All you gotta understand is that you are not a walking tank with a capital ship on a stick ok, use cover, element of surprise, stuns, your secondary is there to help too if you need it, pay atention to wich attacks to use at a time and so on (just dont spam light attack and youre fine lol) All that being said just remember to give your melee a lot of armor penetration, because even if you got a buttload of damage, if it doesnt penetrate wont be as efective against other melee units, those guys will be the biggest pain on the ass, against other classes they barely got ways to defend themselves from a proper melee combo, but another melee guy knows what you can pull and vice versa
I'm well aware of MoK, in fact, I always play with it on. MoK aint no shield. Once again, you have to get into melee for that life steal to matter, and the best way is to sneak attack. So why play TA when Raptor with the same setup is better?
the most fun is the slaanesh raptor + necrotic sword or one with life steal... it's like playing an eldar jet pack melee. really fun. and if you fuck up, you can just fly/run away this works at fortress maps as well.
This isn't really new, Ranged and Melee have been swapping back and forth on domination for a while now. Currently a dbash is essentially a death sentence but I don't buy into the whole ranged is doomed idea, I played a rather good couple matches just today. It's harder, but when range devolves into mindless RMB spam it's really just like playing an aimbot. They'll do some more adjustments but I don't really think it's that far off the mark, there's no reason melee shouldn't have to play intelligently or be punished for their bravado. It's better than the JPA Fist meta.
Man, I'd really like for them to get rid of this shitty box system and just put a cost on wargear so I can use half the stuff people list for builds.
As appose to Ranged who can just: Hold down that LMB + hose down their target with a continuous stream of fire and expect to do very well all the way from: Long range Mid range Up to close quarters combat Just keep on firing between swings and you will down your Melee assailant before they kill you. Spam is your friend! There's no 'correct deployment' strategy to do well as Ranged, just hold that LMB down on any area of the map and your good! Alternativly just Dbash and hold that LMB down again! Dbash - What it does: It interrupts Strong Attacks and Defensive Bash It also counters Quick Attack with a short stagger. Melee has no universally accessible ability like this to counter Ranged attacks, they cant simply hold their foot in the air or channel Chuck Norris and /Roundhouse kick bolt rounds back into their enemies face (its either Storm Shield or wall of decaying flesh or self heal on attack - that's the best one, or stealth) Or if you want to mix it up, Dbash, Strong Attack, Roll backwards and hold that LMB down again! a couple of quick derps straight to their face and their done. Want to counter that ^ as Melee? You'll need 10 metric shit tons of 'git' and that again cubed of 'gud' <3 Melee thug life, become one with the salt and murder your enemies regardless. Life on hard mode for t3h win.
Plz Thraxus. Melee when it was strong you didn't even have to aim, just lock on and swing away. Think that's the only iterations where you didn't believe Melee was dead.
Melee is viable, but highly situational. Bite me, but melee characters should be able to charge into combat, at least a certain distance. That distance should be a little bit longer, to allow said charges. Melee should make up 50% of the attack classes, right now it's more like a niche that you use if you know what you are doing
It's definitely a bit over punishing at the moment, but I was managing pretty well with a Mark of Slaanesh and medium armor.
The funny fact after reading this few pages is that lots of those loving melee are chaos playing life steal, poison blades and off course mark of gods. Before being lynched, I've got nothing against but what about those who haven't those kind of weapons or loadout possibility or even let's say a stealth capacity. Because as LSM no speed buff, no life steal (as in viable MoK), no poisonous sword/axe/mace... 200HP max armour 99 (with no fuel option) and no cap (that don't bother me this much).
