Has there be anything related to fixing the combat in this game? Is Behavior monitoring their "data" as they claim to always be doing? I can honestly say about 90% of my deaths, are due to bolters. Melee is a complete and total debacle right now. I tired Last of Slaanesh today.....before you can actually channel 3 required hits to kill someone....a plain bolter decimates you in about half the TTK. I mean....does any at Behavior play this game? How do abilities and such go through QA and internal testing...and make it to live in this horrific state? Like this is beyond embarrassing. A Tier 3 damage ability, unloaded with all hits registering cannot kill a plain jane with a plain bolter. As a melee player, I have a 50% chance of ANY of one of my attacks being successful, and a 25% chance of my fast attack resulting in a stun, and then point blank bolter death. Why do ranged players get such a high survival rate point blank? Where is my ability to survive bolter fire? Oh ya I cant...... I die in record time. SO WHY THE FUCK DO RANGED PLAYERS GET TO SURVIVE AND OR WITHSTAND MY MELEE ASSAULT? How 50% you say? If I attack with fast attack fir examplem there 4 outcomes. The target continues shooting ( i win), the target light attacks (clash) the target heavy attacks ( i win) or they dbash (I die). Even if i landed a successful blow...I have to roll the dice at least twice more, to get a kill. The effort and investment in seeking a melee kill is brutal...compared to the twitch kill of a bolter. If a person with a bolter spots me a distance away...its usually game over...and I get it...they are range and caught me. Why cant I have similar odds when I surprise them at close range? Why is stunning someone and having a CHAIN AXE in your hand, only a ticket to doing 1 swipe of damage where as a bolter in your hands means you kill them off easy. Think about this....a range player, engaging and stunning someone in MELEE range, does MORE DAMAGE with a BASIC BOLTER....then a melee oriented player with a POWER FIST, which results in 1 light hit before stun ends. Absolutely brutal. Just please fix melee....look at your damn stats and fix this white hot issue.
I understand all of your points and go through it all on a daily basis. That age old saying "If you can't beat em, join em" I think applies to this current situation. It was either join the boltgun club or quit for me but I really like 40k and this is the closest I will ever get to being in the 40k universe so I figured what the hell.
I hear you....the 40k brand is the only reason this game hasnt folded. Its sad though, that a no talent hack company gets to shit all over the 40k brand.
I don't think it's that bad. The problem is they lowered ttk but stun remained the same so now if a ranged user stuns you, then you're likely to die. Stun applied by ranged classes should be shorter. A cooldown should be introduced when swapping between primary and secondary weapon. And btw we're still in the situation where some classes can evade from stun.
I've found a not so hidden buff from melee being harder than previous iterations, people aren't used to dealing with melee. Especially with the F2P influx I've found that when I close distance the defense is rather predictable and I haven't run into many that last long in a 1 v 1. It's only groups and when you get caught too far from the target, which isn't exactly a surprise, where there's trouble. It's been a while since people had to deal with stuff like the "Make one wrong move against the powerfist and your dead, and probably dead anyways" and it shows.
If this comforts you in anyway, they will be working on melee. This was mentioned in the recent twitch show. For me, given their track record of balancing things, I'm not very optimistic. However I'll still play melee because they still do have a place (albeit much much less) in this game and it's fucking 40k GRIMDARK so MELEE, yeah?
I also insist to play melee nevertheless. It's more because I'm stubborn rather than because of effectiveness. I love extreme loadouts like Chain choppa + Pokkit Rokkit.
I hear what you sayin. However, I have had some great success with JPAs lately. I feel like you can ride a sweet spot between dodging bolterfire and hacking people down. But yeah, playing my ground assault without a shield is a nightmare. I can only imagine how terrible it is for elder or CSM right now.
