Quick question about Toughness

Has anyone calculated what exactly it does yet? And on a related note, what's more effective (or less ineffective, whatever) against higher toughness: bolter, plasma, shrewkin, or melee?
  2. IF I remember correctly then it lowers dmg from bolter kind weapons and therefor also Shuriken weapons?
Toughness get countered by plasma weapons

Toughness counters damage from all weapons I believe, but weapon with a Penetration value (Plasma, Power Weapons, etc) will ignore some of the Toughness, depending on how much Penetration they have.
This is one of the reasons why the Mark of Nurgle is such an annoyance for Eldar, since they have few High Penetration weapons. The MoN can both survive Heavy Chainsword Attacks to the back (Chainsword = Low Pen) and Plasma Grenades stuck to them.
Melta Weapons got a very high penetration value, which is why they are just as effective against MoN as normal Chaos Space Marines.

But I could be wrong, since the Devs haven't really explained this to us afaik :D

yes @MichaelChan have calculate exactly how toughness work.

That is what it currently does and how the Armor Penetration stat is being improperly used. As for what it should do, it should be used to not only determine the character's Max HP but also how much DMG their HP receives, based on Strength vs Toughness.
Being a scale of 1 to 10, each point of Toughness should be 10 HP.
Each point of Strength should be 3.4 DMG*.
For each point of S above target T +10% DMG
If S is 2x or more than target T +50% DMG
For each point of S below target T -10% DMG
If S is 1/2 or less than target T -50% DMG

Plasma should not have any special qualities that help it kill higher T targets quicker. It should merely be the fact the weapon has high S that it can still kill high T targets quickly.
Bolter TTK vs CSM should be: 1.75-sec, 8 Bolts, 0.25-sec Fire Rate
vs MoN CSM should be: 2.25-sec, 10 Bolts
Plasma Gun TTK vs CSM should be: 1.05-sec, 4 Shots, 0.35-sec FR
vs MoN CSM should be: 1.4-sec, 5 Shots

Bolter TTK raises by 0.5-sec, PG by 0.35-sec.

*Imperial Guardsman(Human) is Strength 3 and used for 10 Base DMG. System rounds DMG to nearest 1/10th so each point of S must be at least 3.4.

Armor Penetration should be used to calculate how much DMG penetrates Armor, not increase DMG dealt to higher Toughness targets.
SM Power Armour is a 3+ Armor Save(4 of 6), while a Plasma Gun has 2 Armor Penetration(5 of 6). Due to matching the Marine's AS and surpassing it by one, the PG should deal 33.4% of its DMG through the Marine's Armor.

PG TTK vs SM: 1.05-sec, 4 Shots, 0.35-sec FR
Due to the AP, the SM should still have a little bit of Armor left when they go Down.
  6. At the moment however everyone got the same stats. So whatever it does, everyone is equall (except for MoN)
But i would also like a in-depth explanation from a dev what toughness does and how it reacts to different kind of weapons...

Penetration just makes you ignore a set value of Toughness.
So if you have 50 Penetration then you will ignore 50 Toughness.

So giving the Power Fist more Penetration would make it useful against vehicles?
  10. Michael Chan MichaelChan Game Designer

    Yeah.
You can also increase damage, but that obviously impacts combat vs infantry. Unless the attack already one-punch manned the infantry; in which case they wouldn't notice the extra difference anyway and you can make the Power Fist do more against vehicles.
