so i am interested in this game but have a simple question first. does this game allow a single player to play against a ai? Multi player is fine but my internet is not the greatest (joys of living in the woods i guess) and i need to know if this is a game i can play on my own. thanks
Purely multiplayer. Mainly PVP, but PVE tyranid raid/dungeons will be present for a (I think 5-man squads?)... Tyranids will also be present on the PVP battlefields as random encounters. More frequent the more the given faction is dominating the continental map, just to function as a modifier to keep the map more balanced since the factions will vary in player-base size.
Welcome to an awesome community Jfreak! it's great having you with us my man! There will be co op horde mode versus AI eventually, but EC is primarily a Multiplayer game. The game is still in Alpha. Both multiplayer and Co op versus AI are both planned for launch.
I have a 5/0.5 mbits copper wire connection, and I can still play with a bit under 200ms lag from Europe most of the time. Just be careful with using voice chats while playing... EDIT: And melee, don't even think about going into melee, bad things will happen.
If this can serve as an incentive for you, I live in Brazil, almost in the Amazon rainforest, has a 5MB connection and still can play decently.
It is rather complicated while you are in a game which does not support it, but I followed this guide: http://imgur.com/a/OvHdw It is originally made for League of Legends, but it worked for me (and should for most things).
Closest thing you'll have to single player is probably Tutorials, PvE (with a small group), and Training. Otherwise, it's pure multiplayer.
