Crusader squads are not Tactical marines..... they can also equip things like power fists and eviserators.
I was quite disappointed by the lack of chainswords/axes available to Tac marines in Space Marine. Their are plenty of units that utilize bolt pistols and chainswords/axes, Khorne Berserkers, Blood Claws, etc. I would have been pumped if the serrated combat knife acted in the exact same fashion but had the chainsword skin instead.
I would be fine with tacs getting chainswords. So long as they lose their bolter/various other weapon options, and have it replaced with a pistol of some sort, most likely bolt pistol. Because only sergeants and some special variations on regular marines get chainswords, and if they have a chainsword, they have a pistol.
Assault marines have jump packs. And tac sergeants get chainswords/power swords/whatever you decide to give them.
Jump Packs are not mandatory on assault marines.. they are in fact an option. You can have a Rhino packed full of assault marines with no jump packs.
A lot of assault squads are being deployed via landraider and stormtalon lately.....hooray for assault ramps! So, yes, assault marines are commonly equipped with jump packs, but not always. Now, Raptors always have jump packs, just like Swooping Hawks always have wings, but those are completely different situations.
Huh. Didn't know that. Still, my point stands. Marines either get special melee weapon/pistol, or special range weapons. With the exception of things like termies.
But the point is, a Tactical Marine shouldn't have access to equipment that a Tactical Marine shouldn't have access to. If you want a bolt pistol/chainsword, then it's Assault Marine, not Tac Marine, whether or not you have a jump pack. Now, if they didn't have classes and just said, "here's the list of wargear, loadout however you want", then classes wouldn't come into it at all. But, since they ARE putting in classes, then there is no reason not to at least try to keep to lore with them.
