Premades & the casual player

Discussion in 'Ask the Team' started by slightlymad79, Oct 11, 2016.

  1. you can join a guild that takes in the casuals (i am casual too) and just join your guildmates in matches whenever you feel like it. Then you will upgrade from pug to voice chat-driven coordinated experience, yet none is forcing on you any guild rutines or other bulls&*t. It very much depends on the guild, but for most part people tend to be relaxed and casual when playing this game, rather than world class championship focused and enforcing control-freak management.

Also there are guild focused on just bringing people together and acting as mercenaries for other groups to fill in the empty spots. I really suggest you give a shot to one of the more casuals groups as this will improve your experience a lot and not demand from you much effort.

Is the problem "Pre-mades are stomping pugs?" or is the problem "guilds are stomping pugs?"

Pre-made assumes a guild team has formed up prior to the match...hence the prefix "pre"

Assuming you get guild matchmaking and solo matchmaking separate, here is the problem...
Some guilds are big enough that they may not get enough GvG matches and don't want to play Eternal Quesade.

As a result of this, large groups of guild players will solo que and form up in random matches they enter. The result will still look like a premade. But it is not premade by the actual definition of a premade. In fact said team is made on the fly concurrently with match play.

The above scenario will certainly break-up some guilds from flooding matches, but again, based on the size of the guild and availability of matches, you will still get large groups of guilds individuals forming up in solo matches looking like premades and the people on the receiving end will be playing Eternal QQsade.

    And so I ask again...

Is the problem "Pre-mades are stomping pugs?" or is the problem "Guilds are stomping pugs?"

  3. The biggest problem I have with this idea is simple, not every guild has the numbers to fill out the roster of one team, and even the guilds that can can't do so all the time. Joining a group shouldn't punish you by making it hard to actually play matches or to end up playing with uneven teams. Smaller guilds or guilds that aren't playing at full strength need PuGs to even out the numbers, particularly when they go head to head with another guild. Now, prioritizing War Party vs War Party is one thing, but segregated servers are just not, particularly if the game is to make good on its goals of an expansive map with more players per match.

As I said earlier, I think that the question of "how can we keep guilds away from casuals" is the wrong question. The correct question is "is anything else needed to make sure casuals have a fair chance to compete against guilds?" Currently that answer is no because voice comms is still busted, but once it's back there's really no excuse. PuG groups with just a handful of people trying to communicate beat guild groups all the time in Alpha. I know this first hand.
  4. exactly limited time as in 1 hour a day but it looks like I'm going to get funneled into a guild to compete if this carries on , like I said till people got excited I can take it but when the PUG players start leaving and were 4 men down against an organised group it becomes unplayable , what I mean by this is everyone gave up doing anything I was trying to still assault but melle I was facing 3 v 1 if I went ranged I was trounced by an 8 man group , no chance for points or progression.

Yeah we can say things like man up but if the people start leaving it starts becoming an issue.
  5. I am not saying ban the guilds I'm saying have a system that was implemented in other mmos :-

separate group vs group scenarios higher risk higher loot and ranking system , to entice the more die hards and serious players that way

TL;DR: I'Z JUST WOKE UP'N ME HEAD WOZ PUKIN' TOO MANY WORDZ. SEPARATIN' THE COMMUNITY WILL KRUMP DA GAME THO.

There already is a guild vs. guild system in the works, but the fundamental problem is that you can't really police how people play either way, provided they're following the rules. If there's any form of matchmaking, you're going to find people grouping up, be it 2 at a time or in groups of 10.

Now, a friendly reminder: this game isn't a deathmatch a la Quake, it's a game involving teamplay and some implicit or explicit plans in mind to succeed in a map. The option that you propose would only create a massive divide in the community (one that isn't exactly going to always be bustling) and give PUG players no reason to ever approach a guild, and give people in guilds no reason to play in public games because both realms would be fundamentally different playstyles mostly opposed to one another: one for casual soloplay shenanigans (in a game not focused on soloplay) that would frustrate guild players used to organized play, and one for guilds that would be seen as this inaccessible and far off realm of Doritos and Mtn Dew for the casual player, instantly separating what is for the most part a pretty nice community we got going.

Mind you, I don't know about other guilds or factions, but when we play in Da Lead Belchas, don't think we just have our eyes glued on the screen: we're chilling on teamspeak, laughing and doing a lot of stupid crap in the game while having a laugh a lot of the time, but we just happen to have more people, and a voice channel in which you can instantly give an order in between the fun. It's not like we're going in with an attitude of destroying the fun in PUGs for other people, but we can't help to be coordinated in that setting even if we're playing casually. Even then, my point still stands that the game's objectives involve a lot of coordination.

Also you might be surprised about how many guilds you can join even on a limited time to play, many would happily take you in I'm sure even if you could only play a few games a week, I don't think it's as elitist a realm as many might think in this game, but the amount of substance it gives to the gameplay is astronomical. I can say that had I not sought out a guild I'd be pretty disappointed with my purchase of the game, for one.

This will not be standart lobby shooter in a month or two, when campaign system comes out. Every battle will matter in faction campaign.

So, no, you are not cutting guilds off from influence on a campaign just because you personally cant tolerate an uphill battle. Guilds are pretty beatable.

I see this as an opposite problem: How do you expect guilds to keep playing if every game is just 5 min faceroll? Pug vs premade is not crying about how it sucks to get your ass handed to you but rather how to keep those organised players interested in pretty much no challenge game? Most of my guild mates have stopped playing (temporarily I hope...) because there is nothing to do with guild other than stomping pugs and that is just boring.

I've seen guilds get PuGstomped. There is also a feature, that's in the game but currently locked that's GvG matchmaking. It's coming.
  10. If you want to play alone dont cry that lonewolfing will lead you to death if the enemy works together (even coordination in the chat counts). Its not called TEAMBASED games to run around alone ;)
