I would be surprised if they manage to get something like that working by then.

For now, all they have is a small team of devs and a working combat system that works in small groups.

Not saying it can't be done, but I would not be making any big plans.

If I remember correctly, in the mmorpg forums one of the devs mentioned that they wanted to bring us a glipmse of a much larger battle (don't know the size) in a open world.
My quess is that they'll show us a larger battle, but not with 1000+ players but instead, something around 100 players fighting in a open world.
