So...a lot of talk on the threads lately about melee vs ranged, easy mode melee etc etc. So the question then becomes do we just need to make ranged stronger(a dangerous approach as it could then make melee obsolete outside JPAS/shields) OR...does Melee need to be a "deeper" system? My initial thought was this: Give every MELEE class 4(maybe 5) stamina base. Make Heavy Attacks cost 1 Stamina, afterall you're basically going as far as an evade roll AND you're putting all you effort into a catastrophic swing, how is it any less work than a roll? POSSIBLY increase base stamina regen by about 10%, but possibly leave it to the current rate as well. This might make Stamina Regen wargear items more valuable. Extra Stam items also become premium at this point. This then makes melee characters choose between having rolls to use if things get hairy, or do they blow them on heavy attacks? This could also limit the awful heavy attack spam that we seem to be encountering a lot, especially with Eldar(don't lie, you Banshees and Warlocks are Heavy Attack kings haha). So yeah...deeper Melee system or just a number tweak on Ranged?
Stamina cost for missing. So you can't just spam attacks to catch up to someone. THAT is the obvious answer. If you can link all your hits then congrats you go big girl. If not, your fat ass better be huffing and puffing from all that missing. Leavin you unable to Dbash or clash since you will be out of stam.
Walking should also cost stamina. Now seriously, we've been there, done that, tested it, it doesn't work.
We were at this point a year ago. It didn't work well and it gimped melee pretty hard--just as much as sprinting costing stamina. The real solution is to simply give working defensive options so the non-melee classes can hold their own up close and maybe even fight back.
I am pretty sure going even more with a minigame inside the game for the melee isn't the right solution.
Oh we did have this in place before? How much stamina did you guys get though? Regen rate? Was the RPS system working as good then as it is now?
All attacks. You couldn't fight for more than 10 seconds at a time before disengaging. Ranged dominated at that point.
