[poll] What Should The Game Look Like?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Aringhe, Apr 27, 2015.

?

The environment should be similar to...

  1. Planetside 2

  2. Heroes and Generals

  3. Brink

  4. Battlefield

  5. Lost Planet 2

  6. Other (elaborate)

I played only battlefield, but not online, so I don't know how online experience look. But what I want from this game is open world where you fighting over territories trying to push enemies further on every front. Having bonuses for holding your locations. Maybe some crafting will be nice, but who knows or specific technology from specific territories maybe.

Wow, that's one very definitive poll.

I also agree with the overwhelming majority here, that the kind of game I want Eternal Crusade to be the most similar to in terms of overall gameplay, would most definitely be Planetside 2.

    - In terms of having a very large player limit per instance. PS 2 has 1200 limit per continent. Which allows for massively epic battles.
    - A very large "Open Arena" continent for players to fight on, with multiple fronts going on at the same time in this one large instanced continent.
    - The ability for multiple factions to be fighting each other in the same battles in a large instanced continent.
    - Also has a good amount of Class customization, cosmetics, weapons & abilities to choose from.

But in terms of the actual fighting in the game, I would like it to be more similar to Space Marine.

For the strategic map on launch, I guess we can start off with a Heroes & Generals system to connect the small instanced continent matches, until the devs are able to optimize the netcode and game engine to handle larger instances and larger player populations for larger battles.

And I want as much meta in the game as possible to keep me interested in playing it for the long term. Hopefully the Campaign and Missions systems will be able provide most of this meta. :)

  3. Planetside 2 on PC has a potential population of 1800 per continent. They launched with over 2000 players per continent but a strong effort at making the game more playable led to them dropping the per continent maximum.

I think what they should have done was just buy/rent/steal Planetsides Forgelight Engine and create their game using some technology that actually works. Might not get 10,000 people on one continetal map but you can string an endless amount of continents together and get everyone together basically on one mega server.

It should look like there is only war

  5. I'm hoping it will be similar to Planetside 2 - Pre lattice system. Where you can roam around and freely capture bases have adjacency with. I don't want this game to be small, instanced or lobbied matches. I want it to be LARGE, with big battles like I used to have on PS2 but with full flexibility of no lattice. Even if they want to DIRECT people with missions that would be better than FORCED direction.

If the game turns out anything like that or better, my community and I will be jumping on this game like it's going on sale and throwing cash at their faces with reckless abandon. I know this for a fact, so if you want money, there it is, you just have to take it :D

Edit: I also would like to see less "run and gun" COD style tactics where you just run through the middle of a fire fight, jumping all the while and not taking damage because of your OP regenerating shield. I'd like more bunker down tactical warfare style game. Similar to ARMA 3 if anyone has played that, but maybe a bit faster and action pact, we don't want it to be too boring and slow for lack of enjoyment.

So like half way between ARMA and PS2 gameplay speed, with open world and strategic options are innumerable.

  6. It 'should look like' what the artists want to design it like.
Seriously though feedback will be more meaningful for this stuff once we have a test realm to play on and see the style they have and then maybe have it nudged in the right direction.

I say this because I believe by now they would have ideas that are being implemented and no matter whatever is said they aren't going to just dump that to suit a poll.
  7. I disagree with this statement. If the poll attracts enough attention and they are thinking about going in the complete opposite direction of what the majority of their community want, then they might take a step back and think "Fuck, we've been going about this all wrong, the community actually wants x and we are building y."

If nothing else, THIS IS the time that they drop everything and rebuild, they aren't going to be able to make many major changes once they get to a certain point in the engine. I'm sure there's some point of no return, but the point they are at now is perfect for making big changes.

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you here, it's based on how popular the poll is and if their current creation is vastly different to what we want. After all, they are a Company that needs to cater to members, I don't think they are that huge to sustain themselves (then again I don't know much about them, so I could be wrong).

  8. I respect your opinion on that but while polls are great an 'opt in' poll isn't really going to get the majority of the community to contribute. Even if one option won out at 35% of votes is that really what you would want to base the art direction on?
Even if it did then the people that came after the poll would likely deride it anyway.
Maybe I'm just too cynical now :)

At some stage the artists just have to interpret the art present in the w40k universe and make some pixels :)
  9. I can agree with this, I do want something original. I'm just so pumped for this game, I want it to turn out as good as I hoped it would and the people around here seem to share my vision for this game. It's just a matter of hoping that the Devs also share that vision and we can all be happy!

I wouldn't derive anything from a poll with like 50 votes on it, but if it was in the hundreds and it really generated some popularity, then I'd give the poll some weight to it. I don't know how large this community is, but I'm sure you understand that what I'm saying, if 50 is a lot of people around here, then that'd be the large weight they would look at.

It's obvious that most of us on this forum are hoping for a game similar to Planetside 2, and by that I mean we want battles the size of PS 2 first and foremost. And to be able to freely roam the "Open Arena" of the Continent without invisible barriers and loading screens. But we most likely won't be seeing this for at least another year, as they plan for us to fight in small matches that are linked by lattice lines on the continent for starters.

I'm very excited and hopeful for Eternal Crusade, but the devs have some extremely lofty ambitions for this game, which will be very hard for any game developer to achieve. But even if they are only able to achieve 1/4 of what they have planned, it should still be an epic game.

Also it would be great to see your SOCA Outfit in this game, as a veteran player of the PS 2 Briggs Server it's always fun playing with and against you guys. :)
The OP messed up his terminology for his thread and poll. What he's wanting to know is what kind of game do we want Eternal Crusade to actually be. Not what we want the aesthetic art style to look like. o_O

The whole point in partaking in Early Access games is to give your Suggestions of what you as an individual would prefer in the game, and to figure out what Concepts would make the game Successful. We as a community need to voice our opinions so the devs know which way to steer their development.

Out of all Early Access games I've been in, this one looks like our voice will mean the most, due to them being very transparent with their development, but mainly due to the fact that this game is going to cover such a vast array of different genres and gamestyles into one game. Which means there's going to be many instances when the devs will be 50/50 on which way to take certain aspects of the game, and if they see the majority of the community sways a certain way and make good arguments for their particular topic, then the devs will be far more likely to do what majority want.

Sure it would be much easier for us to give feedback while we are actually Beta Testing, but the problems we find in the game then, will be much more harder for bE to change later, compared to earlier when it was brought up by us.

I agree with you that the devs would have thought of most of the things they we have and will suggest. But there will inevitably be things we come up with that they haven't thought of, or (as I said above) are 50/50 over.
