Except they're not starting with Iron Hands, they're making Dark Angels who have no official specialization save for the Deathwing company. So we have 2 no specs and 2 close combat chapters. If the guys at Behavior are aiming for tactical diversity and specialization among the chapters, they're off to a very poor start. Hence, my original statement that they aren't picking and choosing chapters based on tactical roles for them to fill, but rather for flavor, lore, aesthetics and fandom. Iron Hands aren't the only chapter with tanks, Salamanders aren't the only ones with flamers, White Scars aren't the only ones with bikes, etc. If you feel that a first founding chapter has more to offer the game in terms of their lore, color scheme, theme etc, feel free to vote for whoever you like. Black Templars just happen to be handily beating the rest on that front. PS, Black Templars have always had heavy weapons, we just haven't had devastator squads until the new 6th edition SM codex. We're also apparently cool with allied psykers now, we just don't have any of our own. Don't ask me about that last part, I don't get it either. I also have no idea why this postscript is in bold.
I agree i wouldn't want to see the Black Templars when we already have the SW/BA. I'd say that a useful Legion specialty-wise would be the Raven Guard. Still, i voted for the Salamanders cause well.. flamers and Techmarines and cool armor. Also, allow me a bump cause i just saw that reply That didn't make sense to me. The Carcharodons were later in the Raven Guard history when there was no "Raven Guard" as a legion but successor chapters (correct me if i'm wrong). So i still don't get how we could have a second founding chapter like the Black Templars along with 4 first founding Legions that existed with their initial names before the Codex? Isn't that mixing 2 different periods of the lore? I mean if we were to have "Black Templars" instead of "Imperial Fists" then we shouldn't have "Space Wolves" either but one of their successor chapters.
I find it to be really unfortunate that the Raven Guard doesn't have more votes, considering that we have two allrounders (Ultras and Darks) and two close combat maniacs (Wolves and Bloods). I was hoping we'd get some chapters that focus on ranged combat.
I think you're confused about what happened in the second founding. The original legions didn't cease to exist (save for the second and eleventh, who's records have been lost and no traces of the legions found), they were broken up into smaller chapters with at least one such chapter retaining the identity of the original legion. Imperial Fists, Black Templars and Crimson Fists all still exist as of the latest point in the established lore, as do Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Raven Guard, Iron Hands, Salamanders, Ultramarines, White Scars and Space Wolves plus their successors.
You don't get angrier than angry marines. angry marines look at Templars and smash their shins with crow bars and base ball bats before tearing their arms off and beating them to death with their own limbs.
Raven Guards' tactics focus more on Guerrilla warfare than anything. Fast hit and run attacks with jump packs and melee weapons. They're not ranged specialists.
Are you mistakenly thinking that Raven Guard and their successors do not exist at the same time? The Legions were broken up it's true but the Founding Legions were made into Chapters bearing the same name. Then through out the different millenia more Chapters were raised using the gene seed that stemmed from them. Like the Blood Angels the Raven Guard has successor Chapters that exist at the same time because even though the Legion has technically ceased to exist, there is a Chapter that bears the name and keeps the traditions of it alive.
I stand corrected, thanks. I was under the impression that the other chapters except from the Ultramarines (from the 4 playable chapters we have now) had broken into smaller chapters with different names so there was no more "Raven Guard" under that name and i thought we were talking about first founding chapters, that's why it seemed weird for me for people to talk about the Black Templars. Thanks for the clarification
Heh, don't worry, i know how it is. I only relatively recently discovered the WH40k universe (i knew about it before but i had never given it a try) and i now i'm reading books as fast as i can trying to devour every aspect of the story. I'm mostly focused at the Horus Heresy novels so far though so i dont have so much knowledge on the period after the Heresy.. just a general idea that i've gotten from Lexicanum or WH wiki. It was quite a blonde moment for me to think that the chapters didn't keep their original names though cause i have watched the Ultramarines movie and the Imperial Fists were there.. it just struck me now
