Cutting edge server tech being put under enormous strain by a flood of very picky, very impatient customers? Yeah, of all the things, to me, it's the bullet point that has the biggest chance of catastrophe. The flip side of it is, I find single world games extremely appealing so it's also one of the most alluring features of the project.
Good God, if it's anything less than absolutely perfect, Kotaku will make damn sure that bEhaviour is seen as the new EA.
If the pikko sever is indeed successfull it will be absolutely amazing! Just 1 single sever to have all players insures that all will experience the massive battles instead of having numerous servers where some will have a very low population. The sever is either the game's triumph or downfall depending on how it's gonna turn out.
This pikko server tec. it'ss quite important, I have speak to Patrick a time ago about this, and he said they will be testing it in the near future... so i'm waiting patiently
i do have a fear of this becoming a simple fps, with a MASSIVE skin store. No progression, only respawn with a change of some bought skins once in a while.. And ofcourse, Not getting the bolter sound and feel right! The final must be the animation and models, but i will wait for the next update with the motion capture models before i judge
I'm afraid of developing some strange sort of emotional investment in this game that goes way beyond a healthy interest in its development. I'm afraid that one day I'll make a thread like this one. I'm also afraid they'll put Grots into the game one day... I hate those sneaky bastards.
My biggest worry is the side grade stuff. I have just started getting into the game, but I already feel like I can't get what I want because I showed up late (the bolt pistol and knife for example). I don't understand why they are already taking away founder's items after only 3 weeks of it opening? Why wouldn't you allow more time for people to get rewards ... and hell, even make it more like a kick starter campaign and give more unlocks the more people invest into it. I don't fully understand if these are just cosmetics, or actual different items (statistic wise). "Pay 2 Win" will arise if any "horizontal progression" items are given to specific people and unattainable for others. If only early founders get access to these choices, it is most definitely discouraging for any new player to feel that investing in the game is worth it (where I am sitting right now). I hope things are opened up a lot more, and that ALL the exclusive items are purely cosmetic only. I have bought tons of cosmetics in games before, so I can see how this would work as a monetization method. I don't see how giving founders bikes, and no one else can use them is going to be balanced what so ever. Especially if tactically, they have a use that is the "right" choice for that scenario. They are faster. Are they cheaper to spawn? How would this not provide a tactical advantage over not having the choice to use it at all? I think many of these ideas need to get put back in the oven for some cooking.
