Oh shit, that's Patrick telling me off on my misconception and here I go spouting it again. Well fuck me, I better get my memory in gear. I keep thinking about the Pikkoserver introduction video that presents them as such when I shouldn't be.
Of these in the poll I would defiantly say the so called pikko server. My god if this one fails the entire project will be in danger.
EVE Online has one server farm in Iceland, and the only time I experienced lag during the entire 2 years I played that game was when CCP Games was receiving a DDoS attack. I know EVE isn't exactly an action game, but they were able to accomplish this in 2004. I'd like to think that bEhaviour should be able to come up with a reasonably low lag global server 11 years later, even if it starts off a little rough (though with gamer entitlement as strong as it is these days that would probably kill Eternal Crusade, bEhaviour, and Games Workshop too).
Can we add "unreasonable expectations brought on by gamer entitlement" to the poll? That's how Watch Dogs ended up being a disappointment.
Features not making it to the final game are not really that bad, Dont have Warp spiders? Add them after launch, its not a big deal. But progression and the general length of the game is quite important, the game needs to last.
That had nothing to do with entitlement, they showed footage that was beyond what was actually possible for them to achieve and passed it off as what players would get from the game. Game comes out and lo and behold the game doesn't look anywhere near as good as they were promised and there is an outcry about being lied to about the actual quality of the work. However in saying that, yes unreasonable expectations that are created by the devs and players is a potential problem for the game.
Okay, I was not aware of Ubisoft's own creation of false expectations. I tend to ignore anything about high profile games because I get sick of hearing about them.
