I don't want them to go in Rambo mode, as I said I will like to prevent 10 marines making a suicide run so 1 can get a shot with a meltagun and 1 shot a wraithguard or and autarch, if you go full retard and try to take a base by yourself because you are a librarian you deserve to die and waste the requisition points.

not referring to you specifically here, just throwing out whats a good possiblity on the public server. but is it worth throwing an entire squad to take 1 hero down ? also are pubbies even willing to take that sacrifice ? i think most would be too selfish to deploy that a selfless tactic, but weve got to see how much of a reward you get, and what the playerbase is like in reality.

  3. option three makes the most sense, and going by the example of a lascannon make it one shot one kill then a large cooldown/reload weapon

Do people have balanced OHK weapons that they thought were really well done in other long-TTK games? Maybe there's some insight to be had in what games have done this already. I've noted some of the weapons I've liked, but I think we could share more examples of what we think would be ideal.
Some (non-sniper) examples I think were well designed for the OHK tradeoff.
    a) As mentioned earlier, the Halo Spartan Laser: Halo has a pretty long TTK, not quite as long as EC will, but the SL is best recognized for the armor vs infantry tradeoff - smart ground players can easily avoid the visible beam, but big targets like tanks are easy to track and thus are vulnerable.
    b) Unreal Tournament Shock Rifle: fires an secondary orb that has an explosive shockwave when hit with the primary fire beam. Deals lethal damage as a combo, but requires perfect aim to pull off and can easily self-KO.
    c) Gears of War Torque Bow: OHK when it hits at full power, but fires in an arc, has a long charge time, and a very long reload. Nasty at ranged, but countered by CC, just like we'd want in EC. Might be a good model for the plasma cannon, minus the bow part of course.
    Anybody got other favorites?

Astartes can and have done so however, hell they've been hit with the battlecannon of a Leman Russ which can blow armor ten meteres of concrete and steel without any serious damage done.

    one shot kill?
what's the point of power armor then?

Because adds ridiculous survivability and renders one immune to las and autofire, and allows you to tank bolters and autocannon fire? Plus Astartes have the reaction times to simply dodge lascannons and rockets before/after they're fired.
  8. That was most likely a hero from a bl novel. Those guys operate under different rules.
    Stahl and Mngwa like this.

SM can't tank autocannon fire, space marines will get destroyed by regular bolter fire, if you take horrible novels as cannon then we can talk about terminators being more agile than banshees, lifting lictors with 1 hand, they also can use witchblades and I just can keep going with CS Goto bullshit for a while before going to Matt Ward and bring more horrible stuff.

Btw sustained las fire will cook the marine inside the armour.

Not they don't. Heroes are the exact same as any standard space marine unless they're a Chaos Space Marine and are actually buffed by Chaos. Not to mention the "unamed character argument" doesn't even work in the first place as every character is named in a Black Library novel. Not to mention it's an asinine argument in the first place based entirely off literally tropes instead of actual physical laws. If Space Marine bob can do it, there's absolutely not reason why Battle Brother Saul can't, their armor is the same, their training is the same, and their physiology is the same. There is no reason why feats for Bob do not universally apply to every other Battle Brother when analyzing 40K.
Except astartes are not destroyed by bolters consistently, and in many novels survive fairly well. Plus one must remember that Astartes know the weakness of Power Armor and function like literal aimbots with the ability to hit anything upwards of two and a half kilometers away with a standard bolter.

Also, lasfire doesn't cook space marines given the heat resistance of Ceramite. Hell I've not even seen one source pointing to lasfire actually cooking/cremating Astartes in power armor with no damage to the armor at all. Also, it doesn't matter if the fluff was written by McNeil, Goto, or Ward, fluff is fluff, and it exists whether you like it or not. The only reliable way to go with the greatest amount of feats.
