yeh but that pic is not really duel wielding, if the dreadnaught had two of those double heavy bolters for both arms
Dual Wielding 1h weapons would be good. Not dual wielding weapons meant for 2h, such as bolters, meltaguns thunder hammers or spears. Even if this guy from Sengoku Basara (anime & game) makes it look cool. Just no. It gets crazier in that too, like a guy wielding 6 swords as if they were Marvel Wolverine's claws (3 in each hand between his fingers). For the 2h ranged weapons their accuracy would be low at range and could mess up class balance too much. Would have tacs dodging then spraying and praying assaults at close range. Would be more pain &pressure on the assaults even if dual wielding bolters at close range with lowered accuracy. That lowered accuracy means they aren't going to fight at range. At that point might as well just take a sword. Dual wielding 1h pistols though would be good. I don't know about 1h combi-weapons though. Can try it and find out. Can try everything and find out actually. I could be wrong about the spraying and praying thing above but that's the way I see it. With dual wielding 2 melee weapons should only be assault class (Assault, Raptor, Banshee, Striking Scorpion, stormboyz, 'ardboyz, whatever ork class names are when they're finalized). I would also like the option to still take a pistol because battles are crazy. If load out points allow of course, like only allow basic bolt pistols. Players can have both melee weapons in hand with the option to sheath their off-hand and pull out their pistol for when it's necessary. Mixing and matching should be possible too such as 1 chainsword + 1 power axe, if load out points allow. Power fist with chainsword would be interesting too. Though I'd like to see more of how melee combat works and how power weapons differ from chain weapons. Also I must bring up dual shielding. It should totally be a thing. No it shouldn't.
While i agree with most of your points , we have to keep in mind that certain bolters patterns can be used in one hand so dual wielding bolters could be a thing.
Vulkan used a hammer actually but he forged power fists with flamers. The only known example is for a dreadnought is that good enough? http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Bray'arth_Ashmantle
There needs to be some way to point duel pistols at two different targets at once, as well as a way to hold them sideways for maximum gangstamarine.
