*Queue Planet Earth/chosen favourite nature programme music* David Attenborough's voice; "See here, the humble Ork, green, mean and totally violent. Ah! Look as he attempts a Dbash, notice the tiny distance traveled and small headbutt maneuver that the Ork attempts, pitiful indeed. Now see this, a Space Marine of his Emperor's finest, clad in the strongest of armours. Look, he's also attempting a Dbash! Spectacular! Notice the leg firing out roughly half of the Space Marine's height. He's hit the Ork! Oh dear, the Ork is stunned! Ah the classic Power Sword strong attack, and there we have it. Ork meat for two."
Got no empirical evidence at this time unless someone makes a video of it. I can say that it certainly feels that way though. Especially the D-Bash, you literally move a fraction of the distance forward compared to other factions. I hope someone gets a side-by-side video showing the rather significant difference so there's no more debate about it. I'll bet the devs chalk it up to 'asymmetry' though.
It doesn't get more empirical than Attenborough! In all seriousness I would be very surprised. It looks to me like the Marines of each flavour take a step then hoof out a mega long leg. Orks take a step and headbutt so don't add the leg distance. Eldar do a daft flip so I wouldn't be surprised if your Dbash was as short as ours. E - You've kinda taken my point off topic anyway. It's not just the Dbash length that needs fixing (and I'm certain it does). ALL of our melee animations are disadvantaged compared to the other factions. There's far too much in the way of wasted movement and time where you aren't actually damaging the enemy. Take the Klaw. The fast attack has a little stutter step that totally fucks with your attack. The strong attack takes an eternity to charge and you can't change direction anymore. Pick any other melee weapon, while the other factions' animations feel fluid and slick, ours feel borked and clunky. This means there's too many times where we're not doing any damage or we're sitting in between "combos" (for lack of a better word) doing sweet FA.
I played an Eldar recently. Der dead killy. It's nice ta actually have a lunge, and to have responsive melee controls. It's almost as good as an Orkboy used to the Shoota using a Bolter.
@Brujah @MasterSpookums Addendum to the problems we're facing is the shoddy cameras Orks get stuck with. Special thanks to @Laanshor for the video and screenshot comparisons To illustrate, here are the In-sticky cover viewpoints : http://whec-assets-live.s3.amazonaws.com/2017/02/63368_14a0d5876c76f53e0d21dbccf8deb864.jpg Taking 1 step back from cover (no sticky): http://whec-assets-live.s3.amazonaws.com/2017/02/63369_384a36657c4bd9156d184e44537c518a.jpg Model size comparisons / FOV: https://s30.postimg.org/6edsj1jq9/Ork_Scale.png In Sticky Cover Allowing for slight cam angle tweaks, fairly even cam POV, player-character model and shot potential: http://whec-assets-live.s3.amazonaws.com/2017/02/63448_a08d90390b506d227e58d6656a0e7d0d.jpg 1 Step Back From Sticky Cover http://whec-assets-live.s3.amazonaws.com/2017/02/63449_ae772afc4a6c6bbef1711d121f7911c7.jpg That angle means just over 10% less vertical screen with the Shoota obscuring probably double the screen area of the Dire Avenger. Also the transition between cover and out-of-cover feels and looks harsh (videos posted below). Really krumps your aim when it happens but as far as I can tell the enemy still has the same target profile to shoot at. The Ork DBash is miles inferior to both Eldar and Space Marines in terms of responsive / reaction time + turn rate and distance traveled. I probably will have to make a video comparison of all of our problems, but I cannot get my shadowplay to work properly and find the time to do so either as of late.
Did I mention Orks are fat pieces of lard and get shot easily because of their sluggish animations and recovery times? View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7GkNgmevU8 Take this bug I've submitted way back in november. It's still not fixed. Similar issues are present with recovery from other animations such as dodging and power attacking. It takes a half second almost for the model to revert to it's "idle" state and then chain up the next animation from a dodge roll or whatever.
@Geisto Considering i claim to have been a Sluggaboy, and good at it. This may seem an odd question. I've noticed that vary rarely when i lunge, it doesn't swing my weapon, i in fact try to heatbutt them. Is that our actual lunge, is that a bug or- what? When ever it happens the blow doesn't seem to land. I've watched it happen and been like. "Wot da zog woz dat supposed ta be?!"
I didn't even get into itemization for Melee, and why we're legit fucked hard at it. The things I presented are quality of life / mechanical...
