This a thousand times. I play 40k for blowing people up not running around for hours searching for Gold Veins so I can make weapons that I won't use because I'll happen to stumble onto something that's ten times better. Mostly though I hate wandering around.
The problem I have with these types of polls is the act as if the devs have all kinds of extra resources available for new things. Dev resources are limit and to add something to a project means more cost and time or to remove something to keep on schedule. These polls should ask players if they want crafting at the cost of other game feature or not. Then give them a second poll of what features to cut if crafting is implemented. If you don't take this approach it often boils down to effectively asking players if they want more game play {yes|no} which often defaults to yes.
Well said, still, they could add crafting after release? Our founders money should be able to make a change for this project, not just give GW money for some "RTP's"... Let us buy shares/ stock's, invest and create the resources needed for content like this or something else?
For crafting I dont see it possible to have ore nodes or anything like that. But as Choas I expect to be able to loot my kills for scraps weapons or anything like that. Even Talos had a looted powersword. Then you should be able ti take the looted stuff back to your base and either have some sort of armorer work on it to give you something or depending on your skill work on the stuff yourself. There a plenty of instances where LSM, CSM adjusting, modifying and fixing their own wargear as well as having servants do it. After years of fighting 'the long war' its very rare for a CSM to have a complete matching set of gear. Its mostly random stuff salvaged off of the field of battle. Their are also a few books I remember one with Hanzo to be precise where on a world in the EoT where they sold weapons and pieces of gear. Also I wouldnt mind being able to take a little extra time to make better bullets and grenades using scrap from the battle field, or needing so many corpes to upgrade my weapon into a demon sythe or something.
Most Space Marine equipment is thousands of years old and studiously maintained. They dont make new equipment much. And when new equipment, like say a new plasma gun is made, its of inferior quality to the originals, and most importantly, its not made by individual marines but by specialists. For all the races except orks, making their own stuff would be lore breaking.
From the official website FAQ: Is there be trading and crafting? Yes, in a form that fits with the Warhammer 40,000 universe. You won’t be able to be a “crafter”, but there is an extensive upgrade system for weapons.
I like what Tyrant said. I imagine being able to salvage scraps of armor & pieces or loot weaponry and have it repaired/upgraded to personalize my character further.
Yes. Crafting would be great. More Metagame = More Things to do = More ways to take a break from Combat = More Longevity for the game
Interesting. Most if not all of the basic troops of each faction at least know how to maintain their weapons (cleaning, minor repairs, kill markings and simple decorations). But more than that is a bit more difficult. Each faction has access to basic technicians and specialists that construct the weapons and vehicles. Space Marines; Artisans, Techmarines, even Mechanicum Tech Adepts. CSM; slaves/heretic techs, Warsmiths/Warpsmiths, and Dark Mechanicum Tech Adepts. Orks; Grots, Mekboys & Mekaniaks. Eldar; Eldar artists, and Wraithbone Singers. Take for example, Space Marines. SM can perform weapon and armour maintenance, or rites to appease the spirit, and can do basic cosmetic changes like adding kill-markings, honour badges, etc. Some Chapters, like the Blood Angels, make a virtue of these and perform more extensive alterations. SM have even been known to take an enemy skull as a trophy, plate it in metal and wear it on their armour. Others have been known to forge the blades for their CCW. For more than minor repairs and alterations a SM will have access to an artificer that is either assigned to his squad or is one assigned to his company. This individual is capable of more extensive work like personalising the weapons, or taking a piece of 'New' armour and incorporating it into their suit (I say 'New' as these armour pieces may be from older armour marks or have belonged to an ancient hero of the chapter.) modifying the tech so it works and/or even the size so it closely fits the new wearer. They can also do some weapon alterations like making a bolter into a comb-weapon. Plus they are responsible for Artificered Armour. If a Space Marine wants a brand new weapon, he either requisitions what he wants from stores of Forge World/Manufactorum made ones, or he goes to the Techmarines and sees if they have or could build what he wants. Many Chapters have at least the capacity to build their own Rhino's, Predators, and others of the same chassis, as well as their own bolters and power armour. Since Techmarines and their tech class across factions will not be available at launch, I do not believe the Forging and manufacture of weapons and armour should be available at launch. But Cosmetic crafting of arms and armour could be available through the player-characters and their low-level techs and artisans.
