I'm glad I found this thread. I personally refuse to use a DoT weapon. They simply don't belong in this game the TTD is way too short for this kind of mechanic. I've noticed ranged (Sorc) poison even goes through a shield. It's just too strong... it's too easy to use it, kite, use it again, kite.... it's gotta be one of the last fun aspects in the game right now. Although I refuse to use it, it's obviously potent and people are going to use it while the Devs let it exist. Please take it out.
The Sorc poison spell you have to dump pretty much your entire charge into a guy to kill him with it. And it does 5 damage a tick until you pour about 50 charge into the guy then it increases to a whopping 13 a tick and finally caps out at 33 a tick if the guy is AFK while you spend your entire mana bar to poison your target. It will force a shieldbro to put down his shield and fight since he can't block it just like Melta.
Poison is like the only thing that makes the Painboy worth a damn compared to all the other support classes.
NCS / Lashsword is a means to a fuckin' end, its all Melee has to counter the absolute one sided face rolling bollocks that Ranged has become. Burny choppy isn't as good, I prefer Ghost Choppa for 40% lifesteal on hit. Narthicium with poison mod is the only Melee poison weapon LSM get but I never use it as prefer Melee healer, Crozius is great for beating Ranged at their own game and bailing them up in clangs till their weapon breaks or an ally shoots them down. Poison cuts through a raised shield? I was attacking a Bro with NCS recently on Raptor, weapon broke twice while escaping, repairing and re-entering before I gave up, I didn't notice his health going down.
The Sorc spell. Reading is fundamental. Edit: Though lag and hit detection can play merry hell and poison on a neutral clang or even a winning trade on the defender's part.
Only reason poison feels like a pain now is because both the lowered TTK and the fact they are usually rapidly hitting you with something that hurts. Pre 1.13 Poison was not that great because the other melee weapons we're much more viable. So more often than not you ended up cleaved in two by a power axe before you landed enough hits to inflict enough poison. As of right now, poison and dot in general is much better since everyone dies so damn quickly and DOT (to my info) ignores toughness. Take that and the fact that you can land a FA twice during a stun with most poison weapons vs. any other of the heavier weapon sometimes unable to melee you even once and you can see why it's doing so much better now. I honestly wouldn't be talking about DoTs on melee weapons being too much when you can kill in a fraction of the time with all basic guns and pistols...
Poison is only effective when you can stack it very quickly. This is why NCS and a Plague knife are good because they are fast weapons. Blight Grenade is only good if multiple people throw them in the same spot (or combine them with Stream of Corruption) because it dissipates too quickly to apply multiple stacks unlike Sikky Bombs which linger and build up the stack. Sikky Slugga can fire very fast and therefore can apply many stacks as well but as many said any healing is likely gonna cancel out the poison. I do think NCS should be Nurgle restricted though just for thematic reasons, not sure why it isn't thusfar
Correct, there is an insane amount of poison and almost no way to counter it. I don't even know why Apothecaries get a poison melee attack. It makes absolutely no sense and doesn't fit in game. They already get a bolter, why the fuck do they get a poison attack? Also the poison chain swords are waaaaaaaaaay over the top. Try these things out, they're insane. You can literally rack up so many kills with them. 2 hits dead on almost everything. Even if you die, you'll still get someone with the poison DoT. Its so cheap, you'll never go back to using any other melee weapon ever again. CSM sorcerer's poison is about the only balanced one in the game though its not very good as it builds up too slowly and takes too much of his energy. Its honestly silly how bad it is and you have to hold it down on someone for a long time and waste your entire energy bar just to MAYBE kill them. Most times you will get assists with it because everyone's in melee and you can help out a bit on the target, but that's it. Game didn't need gas grenades on top of all this crap. But hey, bad dev team so what can you expect?
