Hey it's up to them, not me. Either way i have seen devs play there own games before. A good example of this i think is Gears of war Judgement Multiplayer. http://gearsofwar.wikia.com/wiki/Epic_Reaper Besides it's called Eternal Crusade anyways, someone is bound to kill them or they'll get tired and log off. Either way it would be something interesting to see.
Not really, but if you need more Examples of what i'm talking about then here you go. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13030175510A43778300&page=1
The problem in games like this is that if you put a dev controlled monster/npc into the game and the dev went to town on a faction the players of that faction would be really upset that a dev just beat them into submission and made them lose ground. Even if the dev tried to be "fair" and went after the factions equally there'd still be a lot of moaning Dev controlled monsters are an amazing idea for regular MMO's where territory control and PvP are things you do on the sidelines. But in a game where the competition between players is put as the number one priority like in EC it would be awkward for a dev controlled NPC to alter the flow of battle and change the outcome for the players by his presence. For a game like this, a randomly spawning hostile monster/NPC controlled by the A.I would be more suitable because no one could claim that a random A.I event was biased towards any one faction. Something like a Carnifex or a Tyrant spawning in the distance and advancing towards a hotspot could work and offer up a nice dynamic change in the fighting
1 tyrant? ain't they comes in packs with hive fleet ? lol at any rate as long that no chaos sorcerer or eldar witch tricked that tyrant to attack there I'm all for it.
Alright fine, still it would be nice to have a few special events going on in the game from time to time to help spice things up in EC. I don't have a problem going toe to toe with a Hive Tyrant or defending against swarms of Tyranids, but i need something more than just that to make events in the game feel special and Extraordinary. I mean they could place a few Easter eggs here or there, or maybe add in some secret enemies/bosses to the Underground PvE dungeon. Just something that's not commonly seen on a Warhammer 40k battlefield, at least one like in Eternal crusade. Perhaps they could do Audio logs like the ones from Warhammer 40k: Space marine.
IIRC, in one video it is mentioned that you will get achievements through exploration.Hearing that, I remembered WAR and RIFT. In both games exploration and the related achievements (easter eggs included), was actually a very well constructed part of the game...not just a way to open up flight nodes.I'm hoping EC will have something along those lines.Maybe exploration will be a way to learn why are we fighting on this specific planet?
I really don't see how you'd go about incorporating a story in a 40k MMO shooter. The setting is important, though.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I was also wondering what the story-line of a game like EC would turn out to be like. In the end I feel like too much is going to be happening between factions and AI for a true plot to continue it's course. It's 40k, and War is the plot! On the other hand, I would also like to see some of the great story-telling of the 40k universe come to life in this game. Maybe this is where developers could find ways to create End Game content for factions, whether it be PVP or PVE. I think it would be cool to have different plots for each faction, with different results and rewards.
As some ppl said before: People will write the stories as they play, they will write fan-fic about their missions and battles. It is like EVE Online. People will write history, not the Developers. The Developers will grant us background, the official story why we came unto this world, but what we are going to do and what we are going to experience... those Tides of Destiny and Wheel of Fate we have to face on our own. We have to formulate the events, we have to experience the stories, we have to fight the war. Not a bunch of story characters, but us. And us alone.
