They said they keep a history of things that have happened in game right? Is it not possible to put in place a system that checks how often a player has pinged locations as a squad leader and after finding how many times they have compare it to the numbers of the other players thus making those players the squad leaders of squads alpha, bravo, and charlie? If someone wants to make a new squad the system doesn't need to check it, but the default squads created should be lead by leaders who know what they should be doing.
Is that right? And what if the majority or all players on a team select the option? Do we get 15-20 different squads? Does it split up squads up to a certain level then start adding people into squads even though they selected to Lead a Squad? How does it decide who of the people who pressed the button actually get to lead? What if their abilities are considerably worse than they believe them to be (the Dunning-Kruger Effect)? Half a day, I think not. Your idea is fundamentally a decent one, but it would take a lot more testing than you believe.
Not sure where the confusion is, thought it was pretty much self explanatory. Load into match, automatically assigned a squad Each automatically generated squad does not have squad leaders Players must actively enter squad menu and select to "lead squad" Player who selects "lead squad" first is given that role for their current squad Wouldn't be all the difficult to implement since they already have a "Promote" option. The coding would be very similar.
What, so whoever shouts "FIRST!" gets the spot? I suppose it's marginally better than what we have now, but hardly amazing. What happens if no-one selects it? Does that squad just play with no leader?
Well, there's no functional difference between squad having no leader and a leader that doesn't know he's supposed to do leader stuff. I would prefer an opt-in system like @Fiesty_Won suggests myself, I think situations where several people sign up to be leader would be quite rare, and resolution of such during beginning moments of match could go to highest ranked individual. (That would work well as long as the person is interested in leading.)
The idea is making players have to go out of their way to become the squad leader. If someone is willing to go the extra mile, then they clearly want the job.
Meh, if I wanted to lead I'd start a new squad, not click a kick leader or I'm the leader button. I don't pursue leadership, but I'll ping points and give commands, it's irresponsible to neglect the burden you bear, but I hold myself to these standards, no other. If I join a match to attack, I'll usually leave and join another squad to avoid the leadership, but if we are defending, I'm more inclined to lead as I'll ping the locus to defend and if we are all around, we get the wonderful plus7 or so for each person listening. That said, at this point in time I'm content with it being random, why, well hopefully folks like the ones in this thread will continue to harangue the new fellows and inform them of what they can do so they can better lead...leaders don't always come naturally or as we want them, but we irl work with the situation as it is, why does that not apply here
Whether you want to lead isn't really relevant the way it works today, most players will stay on the default squads with random leaders. While you can try to tell them, you won't see particularly good results in the average case.
My coffee cup has a hole in it and it leaks whenever it is filled. I could tell people who borrow my cup to put their finger over the hole. This way it does not leak all over the conference table destroying the teams documents. Or we could fix/replace the leaking cup.
