http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Makeb Basically, they were bombarded with requests to add homosexual relationships in the game, and they did it. In a way of an additional expansion (pay for it). But even that wasn't the funniest part - they added a planet Makeb and you could only be a gay there, and nowhere else.
Obviously you have to incentivize your games features to the players when going f2p, not outright make it a laughing stock for anyone who asks on any forum if its worth even trying the game. I dont think anyone can say with a straight face that SWTOR's f2p was planned out well. They deny you access to sprinting until lvl 10 if you are f2p, thats right you have to walk slower than people who payed for whatever reason. You have no priority in loging in the game, you have chat priviledges denied to you partially. You cannot even send mail inside the game ffs. YOU CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN SECURE TRADING. The bullshit drags on, if you want a full list check here (hover over the circles with your mouse under f2p to see everything detailed). http://www.swtor.com/free/features Basically their f2p makes you feel like a filthy peasant who is the scum of the game, and thats simply counter productive to making those players that come into your game to test it before becoming a paying customer. DDO and LOTRO are fine examples of how you let people start off nicely in the actual f2p and then naturally gravitate towards paying as the game opens up to you in a positive light and drags you in with its content and community. Example is that i spent some 80-100€ in DDO simply cause the core of what was available to everyone was so good and thrilling, and i wasnt slapped by 150 restrictions on my journey through the game before i started paying for content packs and other doodads. Thats how you do f2p, not the sad excuse SWTOR is doing.
