Now since the game is postponing the MMO-Open world gig and going full on lobby shooter for the next year and a half, are we going to be able to have community made mods anytime in the future? I'm mainly talking about sound/texture/model mods that would give the players the ability to either modify their favorite faction's look/sounds to better suit their tastes. I heard that you wanted to put a proper mod manager in the FAQ but were unsure that you would be able to even put modding in the game at all.
Like a steam workshop? That stuff takes a while to set up and requires moderation and implementation by the devs, probably better to just work on the game itself.
Well it depends on the complexity of the games code, the ease of use(eg moddability) for the in-game engine, and the frequency/Size/Changes of updates. I dont see mods happening til either the game starts to go steady in terms of updates and maybe in players will modding be both easy to make and use.
They don't let anything touch their perfect armies, at all. But they have the rare chance to be nice.
I'm sure everyone would come out happy if they allowed us to create our own custom models and then petetion for them to be included as in game cosmetics, similar to waframe and planetside 2's player studio, except we'd be trying to get the attention of the devs here by popularity of our models. If people love it, be can make a couple suggestions and eventually it's GW approved.
A lot of models/gun sounds are stored clientside, so one could hypothetically modify those if they had some skill with that. Would have to double check that those kinds of modifications are ok with the dev team, so you don't get banned for modifying harmless game files, but should be possible.
That's what I'm talking about, I don't need BE to make a fancy program for us, just allow us to edit the files and submit for peer review, then BE review (and their GW overlords). P.S. Please
I would hope not. Primarily because I doubt that most free-lance users of said workshop will upload quality items capable of remaining on-par with the high quality BE & GW are aiming for, there are professional modding/skinning/texturing groups for steam workshop already but they are very much dedicated to the game they have already chosen. Not to mention, I really don't want to see something added to the game that would add very little to the game that BE isn't already capable of while just taking away BE time to curate, think It'd be better to have some kind of recommendation system where people can offer suggestions for future cosmetics to be added to the game.
