Plasma Cannon (technical Thread)

    I want to see some highlight on area where my PC charged shot fly. I really missed this in THQ's SM. I just charged and fired. Then I hoped it will explode where I want. It's true this was issue only from the begining, but I sometimes killed myself and didn't know how.

    i don't want plasma cannonlike a grenade launcher.
    i want plasma cannon like an overscaled plasmagun.

    i think that the missile launcher and grenade already cover the AOE damage.

    i think that plasma must be the AOE suppression weapon that also stagger.

    yes some AOE damage is needed (with also a component of armor/thougness reduction) but only the direct hit must do full damage.

    the AOE of the plasma cannon must instead generate a suppression shockwave that also stagger for an instant.

    plasma cannon should be accurate: but losing accuracy heavily after the first shot, successive shot must have terrible accuracy: more over heated is the weapon less accurate is the shot, at the point that the marine shoot at his feet if the weapon is overheated.

    instead the chared shot must be a burst: 3-4 standart shot fired in an area creating a big suppressed arrea capable of suppresse an entire enemy team.

    that weapon can create a lot of interesting tactics and incentivate squad gameplay.

    another "mlg 360 no scope charged shot kill" add nothing to the gameplay.

    Speaking of dealing damage to enemies in cover - I think this mechanics is already being looked at by EC team even in case of regular plasma weapons, take a look at the description of plasma pistol:

    Plasma Cannons are AOE beasts. They bathe an area in sun-hot wash that passes straight through armour. Forget a Missile's concussion, this is a contained ball of Melta plasma. Any hit inside it's radius needs to be a bad fucken day for the victim/s.

    Plenty of other ways to stop them being OP (slow travel time, radius reduction, fire rate, overheating times, small fusion canister capacity etc) without going after their outright damage potential but it will all come down to what they're meant to do on the battlefield and atm, I haven't a clue wtf that is.

    I do like the idea of holding areas, as long as it doesn't step on the HB/AC's toes, with Suppression inparticular. The weapons are so fundamentally different in practice that it wouldn't make gameplay stale at any rate. A persistent AoE that possibly deteriorates Armour/Regen would make it a useful control weapon. You do run into the issue of 3-4 of them closing off multiple choke points indefinitely, although you could argue that they're fodder for an Assault class or a good DMR.

    Adding suppression and stagger to the PC AoE splash is an interesting approach I didn't think of. I'd prefer it be a sidegrade rather than core to every PC though.
    That sounds like either a burst "spray" like a flamethrower would or simply a burst fire to me. Or maybe it's a mini charged boom considering it's a plasma gun? Now I'm just confusing myself.

    I forgot about this before. CSM RTS plasma cannon description: The Hell Breach Plasma Cannon has both direct fire and arcing fire mode, allowing Chaos Marines to rain down clinging, searing plasma on those foolish enough to think trenches and fortification can protect them. The splash radius of the weapon is extensive, frequently obliterating unarmored targets with a single blast.

    Cool, so now when all is settled about PC lets move on to the autocannon.

    My favourite weapon in Wh40k TT - powerfull, good RoF, versatile.

    In EC it will probably have a huge recoil as it fires even bigger rounds than HB, the range is bigger too and dmg ofc.

    I loved how it was made in Operation Flashpoint Wh40k mod - it had explosive rounds and was perfect against all kinds of infantry and light and medium vehicles - lots of fun :D.

    You should make a new thread Blade. Like a Havoc version of Djemo's Aspiring Sorcerer one. Weapon design is always a good topic.

    Maybe allow the odd filthy corpse-loyal Devastator hippie in (eyeroll).
