Could the balancing point between pc and missile launcher be speed/maneuverability? I would assume (and i could be very wrong) that pc would be on of the heaviest weapons systems a dev could carry, while missiles would be one of the lightest (less capacity for ammo though)
Good point. ML has also another advantage: different types of missiles: crack, frag, smoke etc making this weapon also kind of a jack of all trades while PC has similar capabiliites with just one type of ammo but maybe two fire modes. Digressing a bit here, guys what do you think about the diameter of PC and ML as well? My proposal is to make them rather bigger than smaller, about 10 meters so to differentiate them from a lascannon which is a pin point weapon with a higher dmg ofc?
No friendly fire for melee is already heading us down the path to cheese mode. If you allow one type of damage to be reduced vs friendlies where will it stop? If any other types of damage are included or dumbed down versus friendlies the flood gates will be open and we'll be playing another kiddie shoot em up.
I see your concern, but we'll probably get a "kiddie shoot em up" anyway. My experience of other shooter games (Planetside 2 in particular) shows me that watching out for your teammates while wielding weapons that have splash is something that very few people do. The counter argument with melee's locking system is indeed a good one. However I still have this mental image of a Devastator having to stand idly beside a melee scrum, twiddling his thumbs* because he can't help his teammates with his PC. *or using his pistol, if he has one. On the role of the PC itself: I don't think the PC should be a general purpose weapon for the Devastator, the HB should fill that role, while the Lascannon and the PC are specialisations in two opposing directions - pinpoint damage and splash damage.
The thing that always annoyed me in Space Marine is that one player could easily shoot a PC in a large mob of people fighting and never worry about killing his comrades, also it's AOE was ridiculous. Friendly fire should be enabled to it's fullest, and it's AOE should be around 3 meters or 9 feet. In the entire history of all forms of warfare shooting range weapons into a melee is generally a bad idea. I do not like the HB to be the Jack of all Trades weapons, it feels more like a Anti-horde weapon, at least on the TT Heavy Bolters only serve to occasionally glance a light vehicle. As for PC vs ML, it seems a bit divided, both seem like Jack of All Trades weapons capable of dealing with infantry and armor alike. The thing I can see differentiating them is the speed. The ML fires slowly, but has fast projectiles, while the PC fires faster, but after a few shots has to cool down, and it's projectiles move slowly .
I'm looking for the Dev quote but I seem to remember that trading out Krak and Frag Missiles would have a transition time, if only to reload the munition. That came with the caveat "when we get around to adding them" I recall. Eldar DRs get launchers though so they have precedence. Need to push Alexis on the current thoughts of weapon overlap. If so it's tactically more valuable to haul a ML but your trading the benefits of the Lascannon and PC which the Frag/Krak shouldn't be even close to replicating, for that viability. I really think the PC doesn't need to be good at all that much, in the same vein as the Lascannon. Fewer tactical uses would give Brent/Alexis a reason to make it a total beast at it's few genuine specialities (like melting Ork Heroes). My 2c. Oh and can I throw in low/side-cover denial ? Supression is great but having a PC turn filthy Eldar Long Rifle DAs and Astartes Stalkers into smouldering ruins would make me happy (fucken snipers).
My grammar structure was correct you know ? Being salty doesn't help make your point any more valid. Removing/reducing friendly fire damage for Plasma Cannon is bad no matter how you look at it, it encourages trigger happy and makes the gun potentially overpowered.
I'd prefer that friendly fire stay 100%. Not a huge deal for me though. I think it adds to realism and tactical decisions. Also, plasma cannons should be ridiculously good, so one thing that could help balance it and its use is friendly fire.
Friendly fire is a must. Any game with no or decreased friendly fire becomes AoE spam. If two melee dudes are fighting and you know you'll deal 100% damage to the enemy but 50% to your friend, what will you do? Spam explosions of course. Would ruin the game.
