Risk reward should be higher for Plasma than for example a heavy bolter. At the moment whoever blows himself up is checking his whatsapp while playing or is having epic lag. The Risk reward is mostly for teammates that get blown up. Plasma weapons should not just be unable to fire once they overheat they should explode in your hand. Give it additionally a bit longer overheat bar and you actually need to watch what you are doing. Also being able to cancel the charge up by meleeing thin air is kind of making no sense.
Like I said before, I agree with adding a separate button for venting the overcharge, it wouldn't be a big nuissance but definitely not as easy as it is now with meleeing. I don't agree with pc exploding in your hands tho, it happens in TT but actually quite rarely and you can always have an armour save dice throw. this kind of TT mechanics adaptation is unacceptable in a fast paced computer game imo, it's simply too punishing. Now when you overcharge you get stunned, you can also lose part of your hp, that's really enough having all the other disadvantegs of this weapon added on top. edit: blowing your team mates up is also a huge disadvantage as you can simply get kicked often + you won't be the most popular player, that's a huge psychological factor.
Uh, just as a little question, but has anyone noticed that the Plasma Canon simply ignores (or ignored) the storm shield? Actually, the Storm Bolter also ignored the Storm Shield latly, that was pretty odd. To give my opinion on the subject, the PC doesn't seem underpowered to me. If you think you can't kill anyone with this AoE, well, I guess this kind of weapon isn't made for you. It's damage as regular "rapid" shots is tremendous, and even though its primary use as a weapon is to kill, it's also meant to be an anti-light-vehicle and moreover a super suppressive canon. It's goal is to oppress the ennemy and focus the attention on something that shoots great big lighty balls of plasma while your traitors/tacticals just run forward to take position. (not quite figured out how to quote) Well, my dear, I never had a PC explode in my hands, and by the Emperor I use it. So basicly, your point is right. Even in the TableTop, the Plasma weapons rarely explode, but if you manage correctly, they rarely will in EC too.
I don´t mean instant kill. just something like it is now if you overcharge. It basically takes away your armor nothing more. It is highly different what i ask for than the TT. In the TT you have a random chance of dying which is in no way fun or challenging in a fast pace video game. I asked for if you mess up you get burned. With my suggestion if you watch the overheat bar it will never explode or hurt. Only if you mess up. I would like that. It would make the Plasma be something with more of a skill ceiling than bolter weapons.
I've noticed this too. I got killed once the other day trying to block a partially charged plasma shot. Insta Gibbed. I don;t think it even blocks it at all anymore. Also, I to have been getting gibbed through my shield recently with storm bolters and regular pistols.
Let's talk nerfs that make sense: Increase the ammo required to do charged shots. Forces PC's being used to assault a point to run out of ammo faster. Causes PC's on defense to revisit the Supply box more often which gives defense teams a break in the salvo to approach. Increase the cool down time on charged shots. Serves to slow the salvos down giving assaulters more time to get in between shots. Increase heat generated by "snap shots": I think currently you can do 4 or 5 non charged shots before overheating. Change it to 2-3 max shots before overheat occurs. Helps alleviate a little bit of the shooting down melee since they have fewer chances to shoot. Lower the damage on snap shots by 25-35%: Speaks for itself and seems like a good place to start honestly. I feel like a lot of people think that PC users(and by extension Heavys in general) should just roll over and die when a melee gets to them. That's not fun gameplay, Heavy's need to have the ability to somewhat fight back even when not in their element. Honestly PC's are probably the only thing keeping Eternal Crusade from becoming Eternal Melee. Once full item loadouts are in and melee get their toughness increased plus access to toughness items we may find ourselves longing for the old days. Edit: Also PC's are one of the few things keeping the craziness that is Apoth spam in check. PC charge can eliminate the ability to go into a downed state and just straight up kill you leaving no body for the Apoth to give Super Soldier Serum to and give them a lollipop for being a good boy.
"it takes little actual aiming to maximize the devastation that a PC can cause, you merely need to lob 'red' overcharged shots in the general direction of a few opponents." Rofl... If you are in the Corona when the blast goes off, even if you don't instantly die you are stunned and easy pickings for any enemies supporting your target. Once again this comes down to working as a team. Explain to me how modern military engagements have anything to do with those that will theoretically occur 29,800 years in the future between bio-engineered super soldiers, daemons, and aliens? But just to entertain your alliteration, the PC is supposed to have a combat edge at long range, but not medium or short, and supposed to be a disadvantage in close combat. M203 launchers is a reasonable comparison, exactly as you describe. But in the same situation, each side in the conflict should also have neearby an Abrams, 2 Strykers, a Howitzer, three guys with M249s, half a dozen dressed up as The Rocketeer with Chainsaws and Magnums, and twelve with assault rifles. Does the two guys with M203s seem like a huge insurmountable threat now? No. Yes, this has been mentioned several times and agreed upon. The uncharged snap shot has higher damage than it should be. It burns all your Armor off. Haven't tried it with no amror. Going to test next test session.
This! And this is precisely what's causing this huge uproar and whine to nerf pc. The privliged melee classes ceased to be privilged, now they started dying like everybody else from their attacks before. No more 5 kill streaks on unsuspecting tacs and devs who were not even able to react on time, one pc user can stop a melee badass with one charged shot - heresy !
