Hey so i have been playing with Farsight Tau for a few years now and i want to try a difference race (rather not do imperium) anyone got suggestions and as to why ?
Orks- Because you hate yourself Tyranids- Because you hate yourself Dark Eldar- Because you hate yourself Harlequins- Because you have cash you were already planning to just light on fire Necrons- Because you hate everyone else Eldar- Because you hate everyone else and have immortality from their tears
If you don't want to do the imperium, you shit out of luck. Necrons: just make you feel dirty for playing such a powerful army, ESPECIALLY if luck is on your side with those reanimation roles Eldar: See Necrons and times it by 10 Orks: Even though I love Orks... most of their units are overpriced and another unit could do their job better, I'm looking at you Blitza-Burner. The Mob rules got nerfed and they arn't very useful..
First, nice Avatar Second, try Orks, because Friendship is Waaagh. You need many Modells, but you can use your Tau Bits to make orki things. You can take other Races Vehikel and make them Orki. Sometimes it is cheaper to get other Modells and costumice them.
My default is always to answer SoB, because there's not enough of them, but away with that Imperium nonsense! I think everyone summed it up, necrons and CW eldar are currently very meta, and everything else (D eldar, orks, and tyranids) are for fluff lovers, but you'll lose. So I'm going to throw out a wild card. ELDAR CORSAIRS! Space pirate ninja elves with jetpacks! First, you need this: Imperial Armour Volume Eleven - The Doom of Mymeara. Then you need some mad modelling skills, because excepting a few forgeworld models and one upgrade pack, there is nothing out there for these guys. But with that nifty "counts as" rule and some CW/D eldar units, you can make eldar corsairs! Will you win? Probably not! Will you have fun with them? YES! Play like a psychotic mix of CW and D eldar, and then have super cool fluff about your SPACE PIRATE NINJA ELVES WITH JETPACKS! By the way, I'm not kidding, every unit in the codex can equip a jetpack. In larger points games you lack the versatility to really counter things, but in small point games you're ability to blitz across the map, shoot something, and then run away without spending points on vehicles is pretty sweet. Here's a full list of why to play Eldar Corsair: 1. Your hq comes with a brace of pistols, that can be shuriken or splinter pistols. 2. Jetpacks for everyone. 3. If you don't like jetpacks, you actually have good transports (but jetpacks...) 3. Your HQ is the Pirate Prince, and he is one of the fluffiest and coolest hqs ever. 4. Your psyker the Void Dreamer has a unique Perils of the Warp chart, which invokes the utter fear Slaanesh has over your life as an eldar Why is this a good point? Cause Fluff! 5. You can ally with other eldar types to fill in any blatant meta gaps in your army. 6. Space pirates!
When and why are Eldar so popular now? When I bought my army like 15 years ago people played them sure but I don't recall them being OP or dominating. What's changed? Necrons always looked cheesey from their inception heh.
They have always been very good. Wave Serpents before this edition were just straight broken. Now they are stupid for 2 reasons. The first being purely the amount of D weapons you can get between all the Wraith nonsense. For 210 pts you can get 5 strength D Flamers. For 185 pts you can get a Flyer thats a lvl 2 psyker with 2 strength D flamers. For 295 pts you can get a Gargant Creature with 3+ armour T8 with 6 wounds and 2 Strength D guns (or exchange those for a Strength D sword and a 5+ invuln). The only thing that I've found that can RELIABLY kill a wraithknight is an Imperial Knight. The 2nd is jet bike spam/warp charge spam. in just 1000 pts I can get 14 guaranteed WCs (at 2000pts, 28) each turn all with T4 3+ which for Eldar is amazing. With 3 farseers you should be able to get at least 1 Eldrich storm and with Ghosthelms, periling is a lot less scary. Necrons really aren't that bad anymore. They just happened to be the 1st army to get a good Force Org formation "Decurion." Now with all the campaign books coming out they are being brought back in line. They are still extremely slow to maneuver with meh CC ability and very little good AP weapons. Their 2 big benefits are Reanimation protocols which maxes out at a 4+ (think FNP but instead of going away when doubled out you just have a -1 to the roll) and Gauss weapons are godly at killing vehicles. I don't really care about not having skyfire when 10 warriors in a ghost ark are throwing 30 shots at it and 0nly need 6s and 6s.
bikes with scatter lasers, man. worst troops choice ever, even if they are expensive. unit of 10 pumping out 40 S6 shots at 36" range per turn. Farseer can guide them to reroll misses. Warlock can conceal them for dat super jink. If you want different, I would do Orks. People don't play Orks because they want to win all the time. They play because Orks. And everyone loves the Ork player because they're just so damn silly. You'll have to buy a lot, but find a way to get a warboss on a bike, a painboy, and nob bikers. Create unit of destruction. Not invul, but they do have jink. Or just make a really silly list for fun. weird that no one has mentioned Chaos. Chaos space marines are an option if you're in to them. Chaos daemons just got an update via campaign, and there's Khorne Daemonkin.
Ya that was my bad, CSM is overpriced space marines without all the base goodies but Daemons did just get an update that looks pretty phenomenal. Plan on updating my Word Bears/Daemons 30k list.
An army of nothing but servo skulls!!! No one would expect it. (Also I've never played TT so yeah...if I did it would be otks because you could ork up so many non warhammer things. Like my portrait thats an orked up Mr potatoe head as a stompa)
