6th Ed Eldar Codex entry for Karandras, p.58, 4th para, 1st line: "Karandras is not the oldest of the Exarchs of the Striking Scorpions, for that honour belongs to Arhra, the father of scorpions." Lexicanum direct quote from the codex. Warhammer 40k wiki "No one knows his origins or where he came from, for he was not the oldest or the most skilled of the Exarchs of the Striking Scorpions when he rose to become the Aspect's new master. It is said that this singular honour belongs to the one that came before him, Arhra, the "Father of Scorpions," the most sinister of all the Phoenix Lords." GW Website "No one knows where Karandras originally came from, but it is known that he was not the first Exarch of the Striking Scorpions. "
For the little known about Arhra he sounds pretty cool and deadly. I can't remember where I read a bit more about Karandras and his eternal hunt for his master as I recall he was trained by him and they are constantly playing a game of cat and mouse changing the roles frequently. But as close as they have come it's never been suggested that they've caught the other.
I know that, my question was is he the second one or were there more exarchs before him as well? ^^ The entry in the codex only says "Karandras took Arhra's place after his detection". As far as where Arhra is now, Karandras' entry suggests that they duelled in a shrine in Zandros, but "only one walked away with what passed for his soul intact". And, to add even more mystery, "as with many of the secrets that owe their beginnings to the Scorpion, the truth yet remains hidden from mortal sight". There are even mentions of Arhra having something to do with chaos. I would think it looks like that Arhra died and his "spirit" took over an empty suit of armour as Drazhar. The armour can't be one of a phoenix lord though, with the way it is described in his codex entry (although GW can always cue a "mysterious transformation" and suddenly Drazhar has been wearing the first Striking Scorpion-exarch armour all along). Drazhar then seems to be doing some random things, possibly something Arhra wanted to do before. There still isn't an explanation why Drazhar killed a hierarch, but it could have been something on Arhra's old agenda.
Wait... Are you being serious? Karandras took Arhra's place Karandras isn't the first, Arhra was Therefore........
I think my question was a little too simple. Arhra was the first Striking Scorpion, yes. He also was the first Phoenix Lord for the Striking Scorpions, yes. Karandras was the second Phoenix Lord for the Striking Scorpions, yes. But that doesn't tell was he the second Striking Scorpion altogether, which was my original question.
I think it's more likely to be a problem with taking stuff out of context. When Nether spoke of Scorpions he was talking about Striking Scorpion Pheonix lords. Besides this being a thread on Pheonix lords he also went on to say "So technically there would be two Striking Scorpions PL armors, assuming Arhra would be considered one." So no, no-one knows how many Scorpions Arhra trained or whether Karandras was the first among them chronologically speaking, however he was the one that took over Arhra's place and became the second Pheonix lord of the Scorpion Shrine.
I didn't start anything out of context of the discussion. This is where my question was related. I said nothing related to Karandras not being the second Phoenix Lord. I did talk about the armour of the phoenix lords as well (and the question is quite interesting since there is no clarification what has happened to Arhra's armour, the first one) but it wasn't related to this question. You just quoted that part instead of what my question was about. Obviously. I didn't find anything about it anyway. But no harm done, so no worries.
It could be argued that Arhra's armour, if it's still up and wandering around, functions as a Pheonix Lord for the Incubi. They're certainly the most focused/disciplined of Dark Eldar (i.e. they don't do everything 'because it's funny') and quite possibly enough so to qualify as Aspect Warriors after a fashion.
heres a question. is the amour the PL wearing now the actual armor they been wearing since they founded their own shrine? did they gradually pimped it up over the millennium? or was their blacksmiths being very generous back in the day? cos if not. then this lost Arhra's armor would just be another basic scorpion exarch armor.
