there is all this talk of how the lag would be affected but one question how often do you really think 2000 ppl are actually going to meet up on the battle field if it is as big as they say it is that should be rare so lag shouldnt be to much of a problem with pets though my thought on pets is that it depends on how its implemented
Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Let's say we've got 500 v 500 people and half of them have pets. Instead of 1000 units that's a 1500 unit stress load on the server. It's just unnecessary, they're trying to optimize the game to make it as low impact as possible so more and more people can play. We've only got 1 world-wide server after all, so the situation you're talking about isn't too far-fetched.
I totally agree. I voted "No" because the "pet" evoke for me the miniature like dolls of GW2 and they don't have their place here. If we want pet, they need to be real (in game) and not just vanity object, ie have an effect on the game and they should disappear if killed. But I think it is not a good idea to spend time on this. Best regards, Skanvak Drakken
I can think of several classes/factions that could use pets quite well. Space Wolves could always use Fenrisian Wolves as pets in combat, other classes (as mentioned in this thread) such as sorcerers use familiars Ork Runtherds manage swarms of snotlings and squigs in combat, Eldar Farseers used to have a Gyrinx as a familiar and a Tech priest's servitor is also technically a pet as well. There are plenty more examples. I think what I am really trying to say is that pets in the game could work just fine but they need to be limited to a select few pet using classes, who's main skills and abilities on the field involve the use of that pet, I can very much see a lot of a Runtherd's load out points being spent on a squig swarm that he can direct around and will comprise a lot of his attack and defensive actions instead of guns and CC weapons.
What would happen to the pet if the owner is killed? For instance would a squig simply disappear or maybe wander until it finds a target to attack?
That would depend on the pet and how they are represented in game. Pets that have no effect on anyone other than their masters (familiars that offer buffs for psychers) would simple disappear as they are just equipment, swarms would slowly spread out and dissipate, other pets would become wildlife and do nothing other than home in on their master's position (either the corpse or after a respawn) if their master logs out then the pet despawns.
