Cuz dey'z GREEN YA GIT! But no really, this is a serious discussion that I'd like to get players' input on. What about Orks makes them so cool to you? I have personally always liked Orcs and Orks in almost any universe they appear in. Warcraft and Warhammer are two of my favorite depictions of orcs/Orks, because neither of them are necessarily the bad guy, unlike most other universes. Warhammer Orks are in it primarily for a good fight, and could care less what you do with people who aren't any good for fighting, so long as you keep sending good people who -can- fight at them. And then Warcraft Orcs are a spiritual race of warriors who actually seem more honorable and respectable than most of the humans of their setting. As you can imagine, this picture I found to be amazing and is now my new wallpaper. But now I pose the question to you, Ork players. What about Orcs, and 40k Orkz in particular, makes them so appealing to you? What kind of feel do you want from the Orks in Eternal Crusade, and what traits of Orks do you really want to see conveyed in-game?
I like orks because well they aren't good and they aren't evil and most importantly they aren't human I never play as humanity in every game I play because I don't like being human I also like the anarchic nature of orks it's just great there is also another thread about this
Well actually there isn't. The 'other' thread is more on their gameplay traits and maybe a bit of the lore, this is more the cultural and thematic traits of orks, and other breeds of orc in general.
I am an engineering and chemistry college student and home inventor who works with dubious and shoddy electronic parts. Nothing I build should ever work, I mismatch capacitors, power supplies, guess wire tolerance, and have put 8000 volt shocks through me regularly (In fact my best piece is an attachment on the bottom of my shoe which lets me static shock stuff when I want too, very useful to get space in crowded areas), yet, I'm not yet seriously hurt, the majority of my things work, and they all look like orkish gear. One of my flame throwers, which is a motorized bicycle pump attached to a PVC canister filled with alcohol, duct taped to a copper pipe with a pinched end and propane torch underneath it, is nearly identical to a Burna-boyz flamer. Point is, I have good reason to feel orky.
I will readily admit that the Orks inspired much of this as well. I love there "any grot noses dat!" attitude to accomplishing the impossible
For me orks are the best because they just dont care,they dont care are they good or are they evil or are the stuff they are doing good or evil they just do it because they want to do it. In the grimdark univers of wh and wh40k they are the only race that has some real proper fun (too bad for other races its killing and fighting) And who doesnt want to be a crazy ,green, unstoppable, killing machine (fungi ). WAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!! sory for bad english
I love their exaggerated features, their senseless violence, their hilarious accents and their fickle, anarchistic nature. Being a lover of extreme destruction and having a very short attention span, I feel as though I'll have a much easier time getting into character as an Ork than I would with a Space Marine or Chaos Space Marine.
Their humor is amazing. All these races are fighting over religion, to crush religion and bring Chaos, devour the galaxy... And then there's the Orks, who fight because it's fun as hell and is a good sport. Their nature as well, with the way the ranks work, how they rule each other and they just seek a good time. Their crafting is the third thing. How they build things from scrap and enemies armor and it works simply because they think it will. (Psychic though) This also allows for a incredible freedom, when it comes to tabletop 40k. I play Orks (Tau, SM and CSM) and you can attach things from other factions, the craziest ways. All this adds up. I hope to see Fun, "Bossy", beast like, massive greenskins. That's what I expect and hopefully, No "1 Space Marine can take on 50 Orks" like in Space Marine. Orkz iz Da meenest, tuffest of dem all!
Day iz meen un green, datz why day iz best! In all seriousness it's perhaps the irreverant and often gallows humour of the orcs that makes them a shining light in a sea of grim dark. When the rest of the galaxy is going to Warp in Slaanesh's best crochet basket you know the Orcs will still be having a raving good time.
