Even though there may be ork snipers if you dig deep enough into the lore, I think offering an ork sniper role would open the door to some serious fiction breaking when you are on a battlefield with multiple solo orks camping in concealment all over the map, scoring up the silent kills from max range. I'm sure there are many other ways for orks to remain viable in ranged conflict besides handing them sniper rifles.
for a possible solution, i think that an ork sniper rifle should work as a long-range grenade launcher. instead of a scope when aiming, you have a very long fire ark. however, apart from the way to aim, the fired shell shouldn't cause much damage, as the orks probably lack the ability to build high-penetration rounds. rather than quality, they always rely on quantity and size. so, the bullets of a ork snippa dakka should be explosive, managing to 2-shot down an enemy on direct hit and injure surrounding enemies. this would definitively differentiate an orky znippa from others snipers. instead of focusing on single high value targets, he prefers to fire in the mob and hope to hit something, causing as much havok as possible.
I think that a risk reward system for the orks would being awesome. It fits well, makes sense, and would be fun as hell. Forget snipers I want explosive rocket bullets to spray at any git brave enough to stick their head out that dares to put a reticle on me, and if the slugga isn't working anymore I can just toss its super charged ass and use it as a stick bomb.
In the 40k-verse that might be a requirement. Those Space Marines are ded 'ard and will need something with extra punch to crack em open.
Sniping is grotz work! If it ait loud wit lotz uf dakka denz yuz mukkin 'bout! I have never enjoyed sniping in games. It's always been boring for me, but that's just my opinion. I hope that if Orks do get a sniper, it is at least Orky in the way it plays and feels.
This one. Plus orks don't need to snipe, just get the boys lay down a curtain of fire. With a wide spread and so many shots.... one of the shots MUST hit something! But that super long oldskool plasma gun does look very snipy...
