Orks Won't Compete If There Are Instanced Battlegrounds.

  1. I watched the gameplay for Friday, and the game looks promising. My only concern is that orks have a huge disadvantage if there are going to be "instanced battlegrounds" as other games have implemented. Say we take something like Fridays 30 minute dev battle, and actually make it instanced so 8 on 8. Now every other army will be ok, because at the drop of a hat the players will be able to change to whatever class is needed at the time. This is not so with orks, do you see where I am going with this? If you need say devastator equivilents to take out turrets, if you have something like 3 pay customers and 5 F2P orks, only 3 will be able to change when needed.

    Not only in the battlegrounds. There is going to be pressure from the faction for the pay players to be the medics all the time. I can already see it now "you jerks need to stop being selfish, only like 10 out of us 100 can roll medics, try being $*#&$!( team players and spawn a medic so we can win!" Now I have no problem being whatever class I need to be to help the team out, but I am not going to play a medic or devastator or jump pack troop because everyone is trying to pressure me because they don't want to pay for a game and I always have to take up the slack due to having 80 precent of my side being nothing but the basic assault class, and weakened at that, without any kind of utility items to round them out in any situation.

    I can see a lot of ork fans getting frustrated by this in the future, and just quitting. IF it was just a matter of the extra players playing for free tipping the scales so that say a 40 elder vs 30 paying ork army reinfiorced by 20 F2P players making the fight even this would be a non issue. But I really believe that things never turn out this way. Marines are already by far the most popular faction, and an "even" fight with orks wont be nearly as even as the numbers suggest.

    My understanding is that there will not be (or at least you do not have to choose to go) instanced battlegrounds except in the module releases. Not sure exactly how those will work yet, but I believe the full released version will be open world bring everyone type fights. I think there are plans for instanced PvE (Tyranid hunts) but not PvP that I know of.

    I think what they showed us were completed encounters on some spots of the map, i do think these instanced battles will be in the open world.

    Imagine taking a square of the planetside 2 map, and then just putting mountains around that square, i am guessing but i think that is what we saw, i am guessing this because of pikko server technology which allows up to 1000 players in the same map by the "Much different studio", if it was instanced then it is pointless to have that technology.

    This is what they're aiming for. Thousands of players, open persistent world, no load times. Right now EC is in Pre-alpha stage i think, so don't expect much right now.

    This is a game module exclusive for founders, something for us to try (and test) the combat before the game release, this won't be a part of the final game and this won't be available to f2p players. The full game will have an open world similar in size to Planetside 2 continents, with no maximum player restriction, if you want to send 1000 dudes to the same base you will be able to do so.
  6. But not everything will be open world, they have already said there will be pve and instances, and in these cases the orks have a huge disadvantage.

    The only instances I'm aware of are the 'nid tunnels, where instanced areas make sense. The actual player combat is all open world.

    Who said, that free orks would be limited with classes? The only limit > free players can't roll elite/heroes. I doubt u can roll hero in instance. Would be to op.
  9. They said they would be limited to slugga/choppa or shoota, no heavy weapons, jump packs or medical gear for them.

    I wonder if there will be any plans to challenge other "Guilds" to a battle in a locked instance map. It'd be fun to see some locked competition between the bigger players.
