Well it's a decent mechanic and lore-friendly in all respects. Maybe the devs are afraid it will lead to a lot of "Zerging" but again that's again general Orky tactics. They gotta do something about this, in it's current state the WAAAAGH! mechanic isn't even that useful. Also maybe to make us more assault-oriented as we're supposed to be, perhaps they could allow Slugga Boyz to fire their pistols while sprinting. No aiming of course (aimin, wots dat?) but just general spraying in the direction you're charging. Would make a lot more players move to that class I think. Sorry, early morning rambling here.
If they want us to be more melee-centric, the devs need to clean up our melee teamfighting. Anyone that ever experienced an ork melee brawl will undoubtedly remember what it was like to constantly flail on their allies due to their massive hitboxes, stunning and setting them up to be killed by the foes. If they didn't endlessly clang with eachother, that is. Right now, orks just hinder eachother far too much in melee, in addition to all the other deficiencies that make shooting far more practical not just as a solo-measure but also as a team-effort.
Although orks couldn't and shouldn't have more players/npcs to pump up their numbers in EC, we could affect the representation of ork numbers, having the description of ''Green tide'' in mind. There was an awesome idea on the Ork subforum I think, so that Orks get a linear decrease in respawn time the less LP they have invested. So lets say a basic slugga boy with choppa axe, pistol and grenade would have 300LP used, and so would get 70% faster respawn timer (lets say each 10lp less than 1000 gives 1% faster respawn). I for one would love this idea. Those who want to play fluffily will take basic sluggas and shootas and use swarm tactics by respawning multiple times in a given timeframe (thus creating the current WAAGH effect but throughout the whole game). Those who hate being killed easily will ofc be able to keep playing dedicated 'ardboyz and skarboys and will only use max LP loadouts. Goes without saying that max LP loadouts should be used by everyone on defense ticket maps. Of course if this would become the Orkz 'assymetrical flavor', WAAAGH should be removed or its effect changed until/if warlords get into the game. EDIT remebered another issue that would arise, and that is massive exp farming by killing weak orks. Kill xp should likewise be proportional to the dead orks invested LP... maybe?
Outside of weapons there isn't really much asymmetry between factions, especially CSM/LSM/Orks. Hopefully in the future we'll see more differences, like less homogenized wargear, different toughness/life/armor costs depending on faction, different values on armors and so on. But for now, we have to put up with what we got.
That really isn't possible without first introducing bots, I fear. The individually strongest faction simultaneously (but unsurprisingly) having the most numbers would seriously affecting queue times when matches would require even more non-Marines as opponents. Ordinary maps resulting in "standard shooter" fights rather than a more open-world experience like Planetside also limits the portrayal of deployment, which could otherwise serve to distinguish the various factions more. I think the current approach is the most fun, until "blockers" such as the above could be removed.
I'd take that with a "Mob Up!" mechanic over the WAAAAAGH mechanic we have now. That way a horde of boyz with basic stuff will still have some ability to be useful as opposed to total cannon fodder. And yeah, XP gained by the enemy would have to be LP-based to be fair.
Wouldn't a respawn reduction be very situational? Sometimes you die and only have to wait a second or so. I mean, I could see it work, but I doubt it would have much effect or feel special. The Mob Up idea sounds fun tho!
Yeah come to think of it, it would be a bit situational. Though as an Ork getting a respawn timer less than 15 seconds is rare so that might help quite a bit. Honestly, I'm not sure why a Mob Up! mechanic was never put into place. Seems like a far more effective thing than the WAAAAAGH! mechanic they have now. It would always be useful, it's lore accurate, and it would encourage group play (especially if the bonus was a bit better if you were near the Squad Leader) rather than lone-wolf players.
How would ork players feel about getting hit by the nerf hammer (health and ranged damage) but having them matched up 20vs10 or even 25vs5 as an extreme example? Maybe throw some npc boys into the mix as well.
