Alright gents, I think I have simple, lore friendly solution to Ork snipers. It seems that all of you forgot that in the lore itself, written by GW is clear instance of "ork snipers" who were used to crushing effect. Apologies for lenghtier post but you know, quotes and images and all that so I prove that I am not making this up. Quote from lexicanum: "This particular battle lasted for three hours. Hundreds of Marines fell to the overwhelming Ork forces. Sniper fire rained down from the mountain sides, relentlessly targeting the Apothecaries. It should be noted that the sniper fire was not Ork in origin. Imperial issued longlas laser sniper rifles were used, burning holes straight through the helmet and eye-lenses of Chapter officers. Finally, a small company was able to break through the Ork lines and fight their way back to the Hive. Only ninety-six Marines survived and, to make matters worse, the last Apothecary was shot in the head within hours of arriving at the Hive; he was found slumped against his Rhino transport with a las burn straight through his temple. Their gene-seed lies unharvested on the surface of Armageddon and the remaining brothers have sworn to die alongside their fallen brothers, fighting to the last." So as you can see, the devs can solve this issue by simply adding Vindicare assassin as hero choice or something like that for the ork faction. On more serious note, if the devs decided to put some sort of ork sniper in the game, the only way I can see it being done is Ork lootas with deffguns, with maybe particular type of deffgun which would essentially be flak cannon of sorts. Long range, not accurate as sniper rifle but it would explode with AoE damage or something. Not to mention with orks being, well orks, they can make Lootas, or well, option to kit your boy out like a loota and have the deffguns be highly customizable. So it would be up to you, how to approach your long range needs. And of course, as people said before, there is always the Shokk Attack gun or even rocket launchers used by Tank Bustas. I mean, unlike other races who fire single rocket, the orks fire volley of rockets at the same time. Imagine group of ork boyz equipped with these things letting loose volleys of rocket fire at enemy positions that need to be taken care of. I think what we need to realize that while other races will have snipers that are super effective in small scale combat, the orks will probably end up way stronger when it comes to numbers or spamming certain weapon type to counter enemy strategy. Which is nice, it follows the spirit of this faction and it will add nice dimension to the game. So all in all, we could get some form of sniper weaponry, but I dont think orks really should need it. Because where Eldar, Imperium, Tau and all those other high-tech gits can take out the boyz with trickshots, we, the orks answer with barrage of rockets and mortar fire. With hundreads, nay, thousands of bullets flying in general direction of the enemy. All the while other boyz scream at their positions mounted in trukks, or with rocket packs strapped to their backs.
Scuze me ladz, comin' fru. Jus' gonna skim dis 'ere thread an' tell ya da answer ta Snipin' dat don't need no snipah rifles. Dakka. Don' b'lieve me? Wotz a snipah gotta do ta 'it a git? 'E's gotta sit dere an' aim, stick 'is 'ead out so'z he can find 'is target. Can't do dat if 'e'z got bullets comin' at 'im, can 'e? You putz boyz wif Deffgunz, an' Snazzguns, an' Shokk Attack Guns, and 'ave 'em fire at dat Snipah an' 'e 'ain't gonna be snipin' fer long. Dakka's alwayz da answer. 'Less da answer's choppy.
I think if there is ever going to be an Ork precision marksman other than a grot I think a Feral Ork Hunter Elite/Hero might fit the mold. Armed with a high alpha damage/low DPM black powder weapon or mega bow/crossbow. I think it would be nice to expand the Feral Ork lore.
Maybe kommandos could have a gretching armed with a long-las and control it as scout drones in Star Wars Battlefront. Other thing that comes to my mind is that of the deffgun, or a heavy weapon that is needed to be braced or deployed via tripod to shoot. I think it'll be nice for it to shoot a high caliber projectile and have a low-cap magazine. And, to aim, that idea of WoT aiming sounded great for this.
Oi, ya git Ork dunt do dat necromancy fingy, dat be dem shiny hard Necrom fingz not us! But yea Ork long range is an interesting thing to try and make a long range comparison to the Stalker Bolters, since Orks arent range fighters, and there long range guns go in pair with Heavy bolters and such.
The Celestial Lions got picked off with overwhelvming Ork Sniper force. With insane precision and 1-hit kills, the Ork Snipers were a match for the Celestial Lions. Despite being Stubborn Sons of Dorn, they still advanced, but at a terrible cost. We have the best Snipers in the game.
